Yes, because America needs to become energy self-reliant and not dependent upon the whims of hostile foreign governments. Besides, alternative fuels are currently extremely expensive to develop and have severe limitations and availability. But more so, and besides energy, fuel heating oil and natural gas, EVERYTHING we use and have in our daily modern lives is a PETROLEUM BYPRODUCT. It’s amazing how EVERYONE OVERLOOKS this MAJOR FACT. Alternative resources cannot even come close to be converted and made into these byproducts that petroleum can produce, including plastics, synthetic materials, cosmetics, lipstick, mascara, hair dyes, lotions, emollients, sun tanning products, shampoos, hair cream rinses, CDs, ipods, cell phones, electronic components, microwave ovens, microwave oven dishes, appliances, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, trash compactors, laundry washers and dryers, coffee makers, toasters, cars, SUVs, trucks, motorcycles, campers, mobile homes, garage doors, awnings, toys, dolls, games, computer games, CD-Rom discs, window blinds, shades, vinyl, acrylics, Plexiglas, fake fur, hairdryers, air conditioners, computers, printers, scanners, furniture, storage and organizing containers, freezer food containers, packaging for products, plastic films, cellophanes, food wrappers, micro-polyesters for fabrics, wigs, Kanekalon, shoes, sneakers, Rebocks, Nikes, flip-flops, countertops, HDTV’s, plasma TVs, lighting fixtures, lamps, fiber optics, sports equipment, camping equipment, boats, surfboards, rollerblades, skateboards, clothing, Crocks, sunglasses, glasses, totes, plastic grocery bags, vinyl grocery bags, vacuum form plastics, injection molded plastics, PVP piping, plastic conduits, laptops, shower doors, electric fans, Rubber Maid, milk and juice jugs, soft drink bottles, water bottles, Lucite, toiletry, cosmetic and cleaning product containers, telephones, stereo equipment, etc. Get the picture???

After this incedent, I would stopp all of the new ones at a minimum. Sometimes when something messes up you just have to eliminate the possibility of future damage. It's this the reasons we have punishments for crimes that require LWOP or the death penalty. This oil spill is the equivelant of capital murder. You wouldn't want the killer to ever have the chance to do this to another member of society would you?

Is it better to let Chinese rigs drill for the oil? That's what is going on NOW! Wake up, America!

Well, I heard the Chinese have the intelligence, as well as the engineering skills, to do deep water drilling without destroying the whole Gulf coast. If we care about our country, perhaps consideration should be given to having them do the drilling. We are a far different people than we were a few short years ago when we went to the moon.

Oil companies do not control this country, they don't even control the price of oil. To find out who does, just pull back the curtain, see the little man pushing the buttons and pulling the levers. The Federal Reserve which is not federal at all but a private-for-profit corporation controlled by international banksters that manipulate markets on Wall Street with their worthless fiat currencies made from printing presses. It's the best game going, they create value from thin air, loan it to our government and we the taxpayers get charged interest on those loans not to mention bailouts, and just keep paying and paying and paying, even our kids, ya know the one's that are yet to be born, they too will just keep paying and paying while we just sit back and watch American Idol, Tiger Woods latest trouble with adultery and the Olympic Games. What the heck we have nothing to worry about right?

Obama orchestrated the "accident" in the gulf. Obama is evil and wants to use this to enslave us all by passing his cap and trade scam.

I support existing offshore drilling, but we currently do not have a comprehensive system of regulation and emergency procedures for deep sea drilling. So I think we need to delay the approval for new deep sea wells until we can have a sound safety regulation in place, not only to prevent another ecological disaster but also to prevent loss of workers' lives.

crude oil is one of the greatest discoveries in human history. not producing oil and natural gas is the same as not producing food, textiles or even our offspring. The United States needs organic crude thus sustaining our countries survival. There is nothing to replace this natural magical substance.people like Barbara Boxer are just not realistic not to mention misguided. i do not want to go back to the middle ages by choice. there is nothing wrong with wind or soar besides the fact that they do not work. try flying across the country on a soar or wind powered 747 jet. maybe two centuries from today if ever.oil production is necessary and we should count our lucky stars we have oil.we never would of landed a man on the moon or discovered other solar systems without this commodity. oil is not evil . spending billions of tax payer money on failed solar panels is just not very smart.ask the president.

Makes use of our resources. Haven't seen any cars filling up on algea yet. I would much rather we burn oil based product instead of burning the amazon for biofuels .
