The oil spill is one bad event mixed in with thousands of peacefully efficient oil rigs. The United States still needs the oil, we are making progress to using less oil, but we aren't there yet.

To look for oil via deep water offshore drilling is too big of a risk for our ocean and its plant and marine life. If we destroy the ocean, it won't matter if we have any oil, because we will be dead.

I oppose deep water drilling with equipment that cannot be repaired by conventional means in hostile environments that humans cannot enter.

I think out of all the oil rigs for the number of years they have been drilling and there is one accident(a big one, Im not in denial) is a pretty f***ing awsome safety record.

i support offshore drilling but ONLY with inspections for the inspections for the inspections! I used to work in the oilfield/natural gas industry in kansas and oklahoma and there is one thing i can say with absolute certainty. SOMEBODY GOT LAZY on that offshore rig. Those BOP's(Blowout Preventer's) on dry land are inspected to the T! If not the rig runs the risk of hitting a pocket of gas or even a high pressure crude field and blowing the rig along with half of its crew to smitherines! It just completely boggles my mind that that BOP on that offshore rig failed like that especially seeing as how thoroughly inspected the dry land BOP's are inspected. It makes no sense to me that they found no problem with it before sinking it HUNDREDS of feet underwater.

conclusion: From personal experience somebody either got EXTREMELY lazy or it was a blatant sabbotage. period!

The fact is, a decade ago we'd never have bothered drilling 35,000ft under water and then a mile under the sea bed there. The fact that we are even desperate enough to do that is a sign of declining oil reserves.

Alternative energy exploration has been neglected since it's conception,is greed so great that we would accept unfulfilled attainment as payment..classic "mob" intelligence.

You know a lot about this? Ok, it wasn't "hundreds" of feet. But about *35,000* feet down!

There are better ways to get our energy. There are also more important things at stake than cheap gas for your oversized vehicle.
