Enough is enough. It's time for them to go home. What they are doing now is not helping their cause only hurting. Wonder how long it is going to take before they start destroying property. I think this is sure to happen, lets just watch and see how long.

You don't help the poor by hurting them, imprisoning them or murdering them.

Okay, you have my attention.
Now what are you going to do to correct the situation
as you see it.
You confuse action with results.
I've moved on to the "new slave class" we are creating with illegal, trespassing aliens. Who deserve better because they are just trying to survive.

These clowns would protest anything for any reason merely to have a sense of the glory days of the lost 1960's days. They are Plato's "pigs who are never dissatisfied." Or better yet, "cast not your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot and turn around and rend you." Yes, these people ARE Swine

Break down of the Occupy Wall Street people.

Traffic on the Occupy Wall Street site averaged about 400,000 visitors a day during the sample week (October 7th), which represents more than 10% of the population. 1619 people completed the survey.

Age

Not surprising, nearly 2/3 of the protesters are under 35. But one in three is over 35 and one in five is over 45.

Racial/Ethnic background

81.3% of respondents considered themselves White, 1.3% Black\African American, 3.2% Asian,.4% Native American Indian, 2.9% Mixed, 7.7% Hispanic, and 3.2% considered themselves some other group.

Education

Only 7.9% of respondents lack at least some college.

27.4% have some college (but no degree), 35% have a college degree, 8.2% have some graduate school (but no degree), and close to 21.5% have a graduate school degree.

Employment Status

70% of respondents had jobs. 50.4% worked full time. 20.4% worked part time.

Only 13.1% are unemployed.

Income

47.5% of the sample earns less than $24,999 dollars a year and another quarter (24%) earn between $25,000 and $49,999 per year.

71.5% of the sample earns less than $50,000 per year.

15.4% of the sample earned between $50,000 and $74,999.

The remainder 13% of the sample earn over $75,000 with close to 2% earning over $150,000 per year.

Politics

27.3% of respondents considered themselves Democrats, another 2.4% said they were Republican.

Interestingly, a very large proportion of the sample, close to 70.3%, considered themselves Independents.

Cordero-Guzman concluded that the 99% looked like the 99%.

The one way they did significantly differ was in gender. 67% were male. 30.9% were female and 2% preferred another gender designation.

92.5% of the respondents either strongly or somewhat agree with the protests. Over 91.8% believe the movement is likely to grow.

But, Orwell, haven't you learned yet that you have to get yourself a talk radio "news" show to get these people to believe the OWS protesters aren't just a bunch of dirty, unwashed, uneducated hippies? You'll never get through to them by simply throwing out facts and statistics.

what purpose does it hope to accomplish? socialism is what they want. if you want that move to another country. If you are opposed to a business try just not doing business with them. They oppose big companies who make money. many of them don't realize that their parents and grandparents have money invested in these companies through their retirement and 401k plans. additionally they do business with a lot of the very corporations they are protesting against..i.e. apple, nike, wireless providers, auto companies, etc.

Oh dear. I guess since 16,000 people who bother to vote on a Topix post disagree, then they should just shut down the whole Occupy movement. Whether you agree with their message or not, it still saddens me to see ANY Americans who see nothing wrong with some of the heavy-handed tactics being employed against these protesters. When you support police pepper spraying peaceful protesters and shooting them in the head with a teargas canister, then there is something fundamentally wrong in this country. Sad.

I say we should use the following average's since you folks are soooooo big on using them...

I say we allow 100% of the police to kick 97.333% of the occupy movement's dirthead sorry asses, and allow the remaining 2.666% of their sorry asses to run back home to their parents like the little wannabe hippy bitches they are!

Hows that for averages?

Most of them dont't even know what they are protesting, and why should I help pay for their college when I am helping my 3 children pay their college bills.

Whether or not you agree with their message, why would you even WANT police in this country to behave this way? What happens when it's YOU who decided to dig in and protest for something you really believe in? Would you still think it's OK for the authorities to "kick your dirthead sorry ass"? Just take a moment and THINK about the type of environment you are advocating here. And tell me if you can reconcile that with the core values that this country was founded upon.

So you're raising your kids to be a bunch of freeloaders rather than making them earn their own way through college? Isn't that what your ilk is advocating, that everyone should earn their own way and that they shouldn't be given anything?

Rather than make stupid assumptions about why they are protesting, why don't you take a minute to look at the bigger picture here. They are more protesting the fact that tuition rates in this country have gotten completely out of hand and the fact that there's no real help out there when they find out the promises that were made to them were nothing more than hot air to get them to pony up for more tuition. Banks prey especially heavily on college kids. We're told from birth that EVERYONE who wants to succeed in life MUST have a college degree. Then when we find out how expensive tuition is, we have to go to the bank to help pay for it. The banks have worked out some pretty sweet deals that allow them to lock you in for life with a heavy interest rate that even future bankruptcy can't erase. Add to that the incredibly predatory practices they use to get college kids saddled with insane amounts of credit card debt, and it's no wonder that kids find themselves unable to pay when the final bill comes due and they don't have the job that they were promised they'd be able to get after graduation. Yes, there is a lot of naivety among these kids, but show me one college kid who isn't a bit naive. I'm not saying they are blameless, but I am saying that the system is set up in such a way as to take advantage of them. That's what's wrong here.
