Occupy Wall St Debate - Lewistown, PA
Do you identify with the Occupy Wall Street movement?
#1 Nov 9, 2011
Perhaps good the first day, but ever since, the movement has been infiltrated and corrupted by radical, marxists/anarchist that deserve NO voice.
#2 Nov 9, 2011
It's all about people with the GIVE ME's and then want even more, never enough.

These jokers need to "occupy" themselves with something constructive. Some of them are true anarchists and Marxists. Most of them are simply stoners, spoiled kids and other assorted derelicts who have no idea why the hell they are even there.
These whiners would not be able to survive a day in the 1850s, and that is exactly what life would be like without all the "evil corporations" that they blindly rail against. Your Ipod? Gone. Computer? Make one yourself. Those snazzy shoes? Forget 'em, kid. The government can't make the stuff and give it to you, either, punks.

Break down of the Occupy Wall Street people.
Traffic on the Occupy Wall Street site averaged about 400,000 visitors a day during the sample week (October 7th), which represents more than 10% of the population. 1619 people completed the survey.
Not surprising, nearly 2/3 of the protesters are under 35. But one in three is over 35 and one in five is over 45.
81.3% of respondents considered themselves White, 1.3% Black\African American, 3.2% Asian,.4% Native American Indian, 2.9% Mixed, 7.7% Hispanic, and 3.2% considered themselves some other group.
Only 7.9% of respondents lack at least some college.
27.4% have some college (but no degree), 35% have a college degree, 8.2% have some graduate school (but no degree), and close to 21.5% have a graduate school degree.
70% of respondents had jobs. 50.4% worked full time. 20.4% worked part time.
Only 13.1% are unemployed.
47.5% of the sample earns less than $24,999 dollars a year and another quarter (24%) earn between $25,000 and $49,999 per year.
71.5% of the sample earns less than $50,000 per year.
15.4% of the sample earned between $50,000 and $74,999.
The remainder 13% of the sample earn over $75,000 with close to 2% earning over $150,000 per year.
27.3% of respondents considered themselves Democrats, another 2.4% said they were Republican.
Interestingly, a very large proportion of the sample, close to 70.3%, considered themselves Independents.
Cordero-Guzman concluded that the 99% looked like the 99%.
The one way they did significantly differ was in gender. 67% were male. 30.9% were female and 2% preferred another gender designation.
92.5% of the respondents either strongly or somewhat agree with the protests. Over 91.8% believe the movement is likely to grow.
SHAME CORPORATE PROPAGANDIST

Orwell, if you and your "occupy" buddies hate our capitalist system, you know what to do. China, Cuba or Venezuela will be glad to have you. Unfortunately for you, corporations still exist in those places, but at least the economic structure will be more to your liking. The quality of life will suck compared to what you are accustomed to here, but you can't have everything. Big daddy government will decide what you need and can have. If you're lucky, maybe you won't starve.

Your opinions without the accompaniment of facts mean nothing to those who actively engage in independent thought. Orwell (Love the name by the way. I guess you read books they haven't) presents facts while the rest of you seem to only know how to regurgitate what the main stream says. The current is changing, my friends. Learn to swim. Think for yourself. Dig deeper into the lies you are being Fed (pun intended). Everything you have learned is, in fact, learned and not necessarily true.

Spare me from your pseudo-intellectual tripe. I am as independent a thinker as you will ever find. I don't believe much of anything the Fed says, and I support a full audit of that shadowy institution. I do not watch ANY "main stream media" news, Fox included. As you have suggested, the facts are out there for anyone who wants to find them. I seek out the facts, separate them from the canned talking points from those of all stripes, and form my opinions based on the facts and my own beliefs.
Why aren't our "occupy" pals decrying the $20 billion plus lost in the auto bailouts? What about Obama's "crony capitalism" with Immelt at GE on the taxpayers' dime? A few independent thinkers are present in this "movement" who do, I am sure. The vast majority of them are simply ignorant followers who believe that all evil originates from the right. These people follow their leftist politicians, unions, professors and YES, the "main stream media". They are anything but independent thinkers.

Banks steal 3 trillion dollars in tax payer money. Corporations own all of our politicians. We are involved in multiple wars. Our country is in debt 15 trillion. Countries are collapsing around the world. 100,000 people are out in the streets of America protesting against this all this.
And you bitch about a guy peeing on a cop car.
Are you getting paid to be a topix propagandist or what?
POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Orwell, you actually made some very valid points in that post. Still, Zwickey is right. These cretins have no right to urinate upon, defecate upon and destroy public and private property at will. Acting like animals will garner them no respect from anyone. When they act like that, they do a huge disservice to those among them who wish to convey their message (whatever that may be) in a way that will actually be taken seriously.
I'm as pissed off as anyone at the waste, abuse and corruption in our federal government. I exercise my right to free speech and my right to vote. I don't need to join an "occupy" sideshow to show that I'm not a "propagandist". No time for that garbage, I have a business to run and a family to support. I also run my business in a fair and competent manner. I have never been a fan of anyone who screws over customers or seeks taxpayer handouts, be it an individual or a corporation. Let the responsible prosper and let the irresponsible fail. Get the government out of the way and let capitalism work!
