Their cause is encouraging people to look at and recognize the corruption and greed fostered by big business and its influence on the Government. They are practicing the liberties and freedoms that made this country great.

Really? Do you have specific cites to back that up? Themedia has been focussing on Greece and the instability their economy can wreak on the Euro and eventually affect the dollar. Yet here you are saying it's Wall St. that threatens the world economies. What do you know that none of the insiders know? Will you tell us? Can do? WILL DO?

Clsss warfare and income redistribution are not products of liberty and freedom. In fact, they're just the opposite.

these protesters are nowhere near a representation of 99% of our country. They are an entitled group that look for someone to blame when life gets hard.

Greece/Europe are just the latest in what has been going on for decades involving the markets. Read and learn as I've posted to deaf ears on these forums.

Nobody is deaf or doesn't read and comprehend. It is that you never wamt tp zero in on the real problem. The real problem in all these cases is progressive, liberal, or scocialist thinking. Try to fix problems throught goverenment and trying to provide everything to everybody. It has never worked ever in the history of man. If I am wrong, name just one.

Break down of the Occupy Wall Street people.

Traffic on the Occupy Wall Street site averaged about 400,000 visitors a day during the sample week (October 7th), which represents more than 10% of the population. 1619 people completed the survey.

Age

Not surprising, nearly 2/3 of the protesters are under 35. But one in three is over 35 and one in five is over 45.

Racial/Ethnic background

81.3% of respondents considered themselves White, 1.3% Black\African American, 3.2% Asian,.4% Native American Indian, 2.9% Mixed, 7.7% Hispanic, and 3.2% considered themselves some other group.

Education

Only 7.9% of respondents lack at least some college.

27.4% have some college (but no degree), 35% have a college degree, 8.2% have some graduate school (but no degree), and close to 21.5% have a graduate school degree.

Employment Status

70% of respondents had jobs. 50.4% worked full time. 20.4% worked part time.

Only 13.1% are unemployed.

Income

47.5% of the sample earns less than $24,999 dollars a year and another quarter (24%) earn between $25,000 and $49,999 per year.

71.5% of the sample earns less than $50,000 per year.

15.4% of the sample earned between $50,000 and $74,999.

The remainder 13% of the sample earn over $75,000 with close to 2% earning over $150,000 per year.

Politics

27.3% of respondents considered themselves Democrats, another 2.4% said they were Republican.

Interestingly, a very large proportion of the sample, close to 70.3%, considered themselves Independents.

Cordero-Guzman concluded that the 99% looked like the 99%.

The one way they did significantly differ was in gender. 67% were male. 30.9% were female and 2% preferred another gender designation.

92.5% of the respondents either strongly or somewhat agree with the protests. Over 91.8% believe the movement is likely to grow.

Please, all of you supporters of Occupy - continue to do so with vigor. With no real direction or ideas, drug ODs, deaths, arrests, people living in squaler, anarchists, tent cities, shop lifting up dramatically, local businesses losing customers, assaults and mayors making decisions to kick them out, etc - your support allows for putting a face of radicalism on the left and politicians who support them. When folks like Orwell tries to portray these folks as one thing and reality as seen on TV shows another, most reasonable people are able to figure out that a survey from a liberal professor which flies in the face of most other surveys is not enough creditable evidence to overcome what the eyes can see and the evidence reflects.

And please, all of you Bernie Madoff, Jack Abramoff,(names to numerous to mention) supporters of Wall Street corruption, do so with vigor. For sure, you will never own five $150M homes or will you be invited to enter one. Trader Jacks have done so with taxpayer stimulus money, Moms and Pops investment "savings", states' revenue including pension plan funds and much more. Trickling down on you yet?

Keep bleating a negative tune of partisan politics and refuse to learn the players in the economic downturn which is pertinent to everything the masses are going through. At least I try to inform myself, but in your case, ignorance is bliss, opting instead to publicly spew deep-seated hatred for people you don't know.

Well now Fleet - I'm unaware of anyone who supported Madoff or Abramoff and my comments were certainly not about the things we discussed previously - its directed at Occupy. Surely you cannot be proud of some of the folks involved. Whatever message they have is getting lost in the negatives surrounding them. Their message is incoherent. On one hand many of them are anarchists who want no government and the best you can figure out about their demands is they want the educational loans forgiven and all kinds of benefits. It seems now their sole purpose is to create chaos and they are drawing more attention on themselves than whatever legitimate grips they may have had. If they keep going, they are going to defeat their purpose and be viewed more as pests and kooks than anything else.

Excellent, of course Fleet will never believe that big money and big business are in the liberal pocket and not on the right. It is small business that is conservative.
