Where in the history of man has marriage defined any other way that a man and a woman? It is a religious institution and should be left alone. However, even though I do not agree with "being gay", I do not discriminate against them. I have known some fantastic people who happen to be gay. I believe there needs to be something like a civil union with the benefits of marriage. These are not bad people! They simply believe in something different than most of us. Discriminating against them is simply wrong! Oh, and by the way, "I "HATE" OBAMA"!!!!

In 20 years when "gay marriage" is extended to all people, banning it will seem as ignorant as Jim crow!

Yes, someday in the future the Pulaski Judge Exexcutive will be forced to perform gay marriages!

Don't think so, who would have thought twenty years ago Somerset would ban smoking in public buildings'& likely permit alcohol sales, per June 26? Things change in our world!

Also, some churches permit gay marriages, united church of Christ (note: not churches of Christ). How can the state tell a free church what sacred relationships they can or can't allow?

Still, no reason to discriminate against them. It is apparently something the feel inside. You can not change peoples feelings. I believe that civil unions should carry the same weight as marriage. I don't agree with being gay. I feel differently inside! However, I do have compassion for these people. If you set with them one on one you would find that they are just people. Many of which are hurting due to feelings of discrimination and feel like outcasts due to hatred. I'd bet no straight person likes those feelings either! I certainly don't!

Coming out in favor of gay marriage might be the dumbest move he could possibly make. And that's saying something.
You can quote all the polls you like but, voters have banned gay marriage every single time it has been placed on the ballot. Only when a liberal Judge gets involved by legislating from the bench is it found "constitutional".
So, Obama has completed his trifecta by attacking single mothers, the Catholic church and now traditional familes.
I guess destroying the economy wasn't enough. He had to move onto destroying our society as well.

Won't happen. You can't destroy thousands of years of behavior with radical bureaucracy.
As long as some people believe the act of choosing to live a gay lifestyle is wrong, someone will stand up and oppose it.

Judges cannot be "forced" to perform such unions. But, I can see the loony-left and Obama-Socialist types trying to "force" that to happen.

Segregationists said exactly the same thing about integration; very telling how history repeats itself in differing contexts.

Check your history what blacks went through is what gays are going through today; your children & grandchildren will shake their heads at society's views of gays in 2012.

Integration was just as 'wrong' 50 years ago!

When the supreme court eventually rules gay marriage legal, local judge executives will perform gay marriages or be legally removed from office, get out your law books...

History lesson #2; bush destroyed the economy, did we forget? Obama is rebuilding it, given his road blocks & republicans trying to wreck the economy, it's a wonder Obama has created 3 million jobs & lowered the unemployment rate 2% points.

yes, but it depends on what one means by all the way. I do not think that he meant to imply that he would take any action on his own, to change government policy, except what might clearly be part of his power of making an executive order, for example, to prohibit a federal hospital from refusing to let a gay partner visit an ill spouse. He also would not have any power - and Congress and the Courts would not either - over what a church could allow or not allow.
He should have made it more clear that he was stating his view as a respecter of individual civil rights, and was not preparing to assert that he had any relevant Presidential powers that would be taken as being threatening by those who are most oppossed to gay marriage.
I think there have been several polls showing that people can both oppose gay marriage, using the term marriage, and support civil unions if the word marriage is not used. I think a big objection is to the use of the word marriage - not so much to the granting of certain rights. I also think that there is a totally unjustified fear that there might be some government intrusion into what churches can do.

I would not call it believing in something different, as if they had a choice. I suspect that in most cases people are gay for genetic reasons. That does not mean that I think it is in all cases. It is not nice to be a person full of hatred, it can hurt you yourself to have that emotion eating away at you.

that is not what the issue is. the state cannot tell the church it must perform or honor gay marriages. it cannot penalize a church for refusing to allow gay marriages. the first amendment guarantees separation of church and state to a great extent - though not entirely.
I think there might be an issue if a church-run hospital refused to allow a gay person in to visit a dying spouse. But that right could not be guaranteed by some act of a President, acting alone. And if Congress enacted such a law, I think the courts would look at the issue.
what would be required if there were a ruling by a court, for example, that gay persons have a right to marry, would be that government officials would issue marriage licenses, and judges would officiate at such marriages. and the rights of married persons under the law would be guaranteed to such marriage partners, the same as to heterosexual marriage partners.
do not get so alarmed. some of us who support gay rights are also very strongly for freedom of religion and separation of church and state. there are not enough gay persons to elect legislators who would support legalizing gay marriages - and the non-gay supporters would support it for civil libertarian reasons. most of us are civil libertarians on several issues, not just one.
your church would not have to perform marriages for gay couples.

in general I agree, but it was not Bush alone who destroyed the economy. alan greenspan was primarily responsible, because he refused to do the part of his job that involved watching over threats to the banking system by over-speculation, as was done in the derivatives markets and with credit default swaps. It was also partly the fault of Congress, for repealing a law called something like Glass-Seigel (not sure of spelling) that did not let banks do so many fuctions -and made them specialize more. the repeal of that led to banks getting too big and taking wild risks, and maybe to fraud, in some cases.
Also, it is not Obama who creates new jobs. It is not what a President does. I am sure you did not imply that he did it himself. He proposed a stimulus package - which was cut down to be too small and which did not divide the money into enough high-stimulus priorities - and Congress passed it, and it took about 3 Republican votes in the Senate to get the bill considered and passed there, because of filibuster rules. That was a major reason why the package was socalled "watered down." But it helped somewhat. The auto bailout and cash for clunkers also helped somewhat, and that is not to say they were perfect - only that things could have gotten much worse.
you are right if you accuse Republicans of attempting to defeat Obama's attempts to revive the economy. many of them admit that they want him to fail to help to restore the economy, so that they can defeat him - so they vote against his proposals to help the economy grow. they also vote against proposals to regulate the big banks so they do not do stupid or greedy things to endanger the economy - as apparently was done by the big bank in the news now.

You have drank a BIG dose of Obama juice and are presenting false information! One point I would like to make is concerning the employment rates. Kentucky has canceled all extended unemployment benefits regardless of what is still owed. All of these people are without any income, AND JOBLESS! All of these people are no longer on the unemployment rolls and are not counted in the unemployment rates. PRETTY SMART TRICK ISN'T IT? Again, dont take my word for it just because I am one of them! Look for yourself!!
