I fail to understand why citizens of our country want to control the non-violent actions of others. The heathly relationship between two individuals that involves love, respect, and commitment it really no one else's concern. They deserve equal treatment and should not be slighted by those harboring intolerant religious beliefs. Laws against gay marriage make about as much sense as laws against sodomy.

I am a gay man and I have no desire to marry another man. What's the point? Married people on average pay the gov more than single people, unless you have dependants. Marriage is ignorant. Divorce if costly. Gays in general do not stay together very long, with a few exeptions. It's gonna eat up tax dollars and the whole nine yards. Straight people do the same but gays are notorious for bed hopping. My partner and I have been together for 16 yrs , we learned how to live together over the years. It's not always easy but str8 people could take a lesson from us.

@well

You make some good points. In the distant future I see the official act of marriage probably becoming obselete. Tradition and ritual are mores that will die a very slow death. If laws were changed sooner that facilitated equal representation irregardless of sexual persuasion it might happen sooner. But there remains practical issues that simple cohabitation doesn't address. Child custody being one of those.

As a Christian, I know that God's Word teaches against same sex relationships. This fits right in the same catagory with mother/son, father/daughter, brother/sister sexual relationships, and is against God's holy will.

That is perfectly acceptable to think that way. BUT don't expect others to necessarily agree and don't try to force others to live the way YOU expect them to. It is not a free society if one group of individuals tries to force their belief and dogma onto others through legislation or social pressure.

Marriage by definition is between a Man and a Woman. I married my wife with that in mind and don’t think/feel its right that the definition of my commitment should be changed. Don’t get me wrong I do believe in equal rights, but call it something else.

Perhaps in the 21st century it is time to update the definition.
Think about it

Obama has every right to his opinion on gay marriage, but why does the main stream media bash public figures that believe in traditional marriage.

It would be the intolerance of same sex marriage that is likely to come under fire. Obama believes in traditional marriage for himself.
