We don't live as cave men without electricity and modern conveniences. Getting the most for our money is what we all want, demand and need. I am sure that you don't want to sacrifice any of 'your' comforts. Al Gore and Barack Obama 'never' make sacrifices for the good of Gaia.

Support different reactor technology,(Thorium?), requires an accelerator to react cut the power to the accelerator and the reaction stops, plus the waste has a much shorter half life.

Because it's not safe, you can bury or any other way, no matter , there IS NO SAFE WAY OR PLACE ... WAKE UP....maybe we can put it in your back yard? No then why should someone else take your waste. Wake up.
Great point - the people need to wake up!!! What's wrong with these people???
Natural energies is what we need people - Natural!!!
Like Geothermal, which we have over abundance of from the Earth's Core - Governments are not ready to capitalize on it Bcuz it could resolve the monetary / money systems and trade businesses with other countries and start a revolution with citizens all over the world - bcuz there would be less dependence for the governments if all energy systems were natural and abundant.

Wrong. Other than geothermal, none of the others (wind, solar, and wave) produce 24/7 and all of them (including geothermal) do not produce enough to meet the demand. Energy policy should not be an either/or approach.

TOO many other ways to make safer energy - if you make something that has a bi-product you can do nothing with, in large amounts, and it IS dangerous; YOU NEED to stop. Humans are about to send themselves into extinction.

Can you say JAPAN & how much of their radioactive stuff is washing up on our shores.
Can you say earthquakes, super tornadoes, hurricanes; what other natural disasters do you want to take out the nuclear power plant in your neighborhood?

Need to reduce energy use or just use it more wisely. See TurboBurn.net for one solution to the heating/hot water energy creation issues. The north Americans generate more wastes; much of which, after recycling, can be burned for energy and more cleanly than nuclear.
Do you see the word unclear in nuclear?
The time is now; take over your utilities and make heat and hot water yourself! MUCH cheaper and it is NOT rocket science; you CAN do this yourself. A bit of sweat equity for free heat.

Overall, nuclear power has more benefits than not. Safety issues are challenges, continuing to rely upon dictatorships to bring us oil will bring us disaster

Living in fear of "what if's" leads to "witch-hunts" and round-ups of "undesirables" to be marched to death camps.

I can't imagine living in fear of technology; of hating the jobs and families that new technologies, developments, would help.

Of course there are concerns: accidents, containment; disasters; war; terrorism.

To allow fear to overcome the optimism that we as a people, as a community, as a country, as an Educated Society, can't provide safeguards, can't make recoveries, can't overcome storms and tragedy, is an insult to all of humanity, the entire Humanity Family, a figurative slap-in-the-face to every person that gave their lives or risk their lives in defense of country.

The pessimism in these posts is tragic, it brainwashes children, as Hitler hoped.

Of course we can! WE CAN! And in so doing, yes, there will be sacrifice, there will be blood, sweat and tears, and all that combined will give us more pride in the results, and more experience to minimize such events.

What I see here, also, is a fringe-group's promotion of the idea of "hypocrisy," because they will flaunt the idea of building a nuclear reactor, as an example of it, in comparison to Iran and North Korea and other countries. But it is not us, these United States, censoring, arresting dissenters, rounding-up "undesirables," threatening other countries and minorities with being "wiped off the face of Earth's map" merely for differing faith.

-- at least we US'ans strive not to be that way.

Therefore, I agree with this plan, we should build a reactor in Spokane immediately; the rewards outweigh the risks; if anything, just to prove we are not in support of those whom subtly promote SHARIA LAW.

Kind Regards, always,
Clayton Leon Winton

Thank You Clayton.

The collectivist doom and dereliction we are having is mind blowing. Imagined fears and made up "science" is used to coerce and control the crowd.

Hysteria and hyperbole is stopping any useful innovation, yet we spend billions of tax money bankrolling green crony capitalists.

I SERIOUSLY think that nothing has destroyed the earth more than hydropower. Liberals love it, the environmentalists ignore ANY evidence of destroyed fauna, water drain and permanent distortion of topography. The only reason is that all liberals and environmentalists are closet communists and authoritarians that just want to control others and make us all mindless pawns.

Finally, just know all liberals at heart would have no hesitation sending entire populations to death camps and/or gulags if in some sense gave ""social justice". They care nothing about reducing energy consumption either. Well, they want to reduce it or YOU, but not for themselves.

The entire USA is full of destroyed nature due to the liberal policy of damming up all rivers to create some cheap jobs and voters along with their more sophisticated desire of erasing cultural boundaries.

When you dam up big rivers you destroy the habitat of the animals around it for hundreds of miles, you destroy the natural ancestral lands of people who have lived there (liberals destroying minorities again), you pollute MUCH more as the natural drainage flow is destroyed, now, even natural mud cannot drain properly, you drain ground water and finally you continue to perpetuate the absurdity that is called "sustainable energy".

Lying lying liberals, how much you gonna lie today??

Why would ANYONE support nuclear waste? You can do nothing with i; burying it only creates problems down the road; see Hanford for more. Leaking radioactive poison into our drinking water and soil - OH THAT IS GOOD!- NOT! There are SO many BETTER ways to create energy OR just use less. DO YOU really need 2-5 TVs; a BIG screen like in the theaters? How often do you leave your lights on? NO; most everyone is greedy or just plain stupid! they DO NOT know HOW TO READ or choose not to. IF they did they WOULD NOT want nuclear. Put it in your back yard if you do; I WILL NOT let you put it NEAR mine!

Better than 40 years ago does not matter & is irrelevant! YOU STILL CANNOT DO ANYTHING WITH RADIOACTIVE WASTE! PUT IT IN YOUR BACKYARD; NOT MINE!

THEN STUPID HUMANS NEED TO LEARN TO USE LESS AND SWITCH OFF EVERYTHING! GO AHEAD AND PUT IN ALL NUCLEAR EVERYWHERE FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS WE CREATED BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY UNCARING IDIOTS ALIVE TODAY!
However, since we HAVE already polluted the air to extremes; polluted the water to extremes (can you say DRINKING water?)and HUMANs now want to decimate the land more than they already have done in this last century - OH GOODY!

KEEP CREATING MORE NUCLEAR WASTES; KEEP POLLUTING THE AIR; KEEP DESTROYING THE WATER; KEEP DECIMATING THE LAND-----AND YOU FEEL YOU WILL NOT BECOME A CAVE MAN? ONLY BECAUSE YOU WILL BE DEAD!

I WANT TO HEAR YOU SAY THAT WHEN NUCLEAR WASTE IN LEAKING INTO YOUR DRINKING WATER; WHEN THAT 'BENEFIT' IS DESTROYING ALL PLANT LIFE IN YOUR BACK YARD. TEL;L ME WHAT YOUR CHILDREN THINK ABOUT WHEN THEY DRINK RADIOACTIVE WATER!

CAYTON, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FEAR AS THREE MILE ISLAND WAS VERY REAL; HANFORD LEAKING INTO DRINKING WATER IS VERY REAL; JAPANS NUCLEAR DISASTER IS VERY REAL; CHERNOBYL IS VERY REAL -- ONLY YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY!

"NOTHING HAS DESTROYED THE PLANET MORE THAN STUPID HUMANS"...

That was my whole point! You just tried to steal my point and give it a socialist dressing. No thanks!! When I say HYDROPOWER has been (and IS) destroying land, fauna, water and habitat on a REAL and DAILY basis with you leftist "environmentalists" not caring at all. To liberals and communists hydropower is sacred. One of the few sacred things to them maybe? Not only does it create a lot of well-paying work projects, which essentially is a short term lease of voters, but it also enables them to keep believing the fallacy that we can alter climate, water, life and reality.

If libs REALLY cared, they would not be moralizing over others to turn off their electricity because they don't. Mr AlGore?

Finally, what happened at Chernobyl, Fukoshima, Harrisburg or even HIROSHIMA is NOTHING N-O-T-H-I-N-G compared to how much
misery hydropower has caused to the planet. You liberals are idiots that just think you can label any of your activities as compassionate as long as you demonize others enough. You globalists destroy more minorities every day through your activities and it is not even the corporates that are the worst, but the government projects indeed.

Let me know when you are ready to discuss the historical destructive realities and alterations of the world with the use of hydropower. Nothing is more destructive to the planet and nothing is a bigger lie about "green energy". It makes me puke every time I hear another lawmaker talk about how great it is!!
