It'd be easier to nuke our country. There are better alternatives, and I think they might be cheaper too.

There are no better alternative that are cheaper. The most common alternative is burning coal, which kills more people in the US every year than the use of nuclear power has ever killed.

They cannot generate enough power consistently and they are more expensive. In addition they can seldom be located where the power is needed, requiring construction and maintenance of power lines. In Germany, they have fallen far behind in building power lines for their offshore windmills. But the windmills are already there and require maintenance. That includes operating diesel generators to provide electricity to provide the required rotation of the windmills while they are not connected to the grid.
