This country is very rich in natural resources. Why was BP drilling in the Gulf? Shouldn't WE be reaping the benifits of that oil? We could put people to work here building oil rigs and operating them. There is so much oil & coal in this country!!! I understand that people want to save the planet & not use our natural resources, but, Nuclear power poisons us all FOREVER!!!!!!!

Except coal releases about 160,000 tons of mercury in the air each year which causes birthdefects. As for oil at best there is only like 30 years of oil left in the whole world.

Whether we like it or not, it will happen. Otherwise, how will all those electric cars be powered? When we are no longer oil dependent, I believe our Nuclear Power Plants will be targets of anger. Either way, we're screwed.

With the ongoing depletion of fossil fuels, including coal, the only solution is nuclear generation. The United States hasn't built a major oil refinery in over forty years. Our major rivers are already dammed with no other future projects exisiting. We are so behind on alternate energy sources that we cannot catch up. Gas is almost four dollars per gallon and people still matriculate on down the road with breakneck speed. Do you think that Americans are going to quit using their blow driers or cell phones? It ain't going to happen. We are too used to our creature comforts. All this makes nuclear energy the only hope for power generation of the future in this country. Unfortunately, the goods outweigh the bads.
