In an age of dwindling fossil fuels, we need to bridge the transition to truly safe, renewable energy.

Uranium is not a renewable resource. There is a finite amount of ore available on Earth to mine. Also, percentage-wise most uranium is lower-grade, requiring more refining to properly process. The availability of high-grade uranium ore will deplete over time meaning the fuel will become more environmentally and economically expensive to extract. It's been posited that highly diluted uranium can be extracted from sea-water, which is about as feasible at this point as relying on desalination plants for our water supply, or tidal power generators for electricity. This will all take massive amounts of construction, requiring power and materials that are everyday becoming more rare, and more expensive, to produce.
We can go into lengthy comparisons to oil shale, peak oil/peak uranium, the matter of nuclear waste disposal, and the possibility of more frequent catastrophes as we rely more and more on nuclear energy. Or how current uranium production meets only 58% of demand, with the remainder provided by rapidly shrinking military and commercial stockpiles.
Really, you posted this about 2 weeks after the Fukushima disaster began. And you have the audacity to talk about this as "truly safe" energy - compared to what??

It should be obvious.
