Prohibition was a huge failure in the 20's and only created more opportunities for many other crimes in the "Speak-Easies" and such! The same holds true for criminalizing marijuana, and it's costing our country fortunes that we don't have to imprison vast numbers of non-violent people for it! Plus it's cost many lives in Mexico and near our border because of the lucrative business of drug smuggling! There are many good uses for marijuana besides just smoking it for a "buzz", such as with the plant's oil, strong fiber, and compassionate very realistic medicinal uses! I say tax it and wipe out our national debt!!! Big Pharma doesn't like that idea because they can't patent it! GOP doesn't like it because they won't get the huge corprate donations from it and it would create "More Gov't Regulations, besides being too strong of a good solution for larger problems and so forth! The crime rate in Amsterdam where it's legal is quite enviable! This should be so obvious and simple!Uncle Sam makes his own fortunes in fines and backroom Judicial System deals, but not enough to cover the costs they create along the way.

That is even more sadly ignorant than my supposedly well educated family, and THAT'S really saying something!!Marijuana definitely does NOT cause any sort of "brain damage", and I doubt this person even has a genuine clue as to what actual "brain damage" even is! I've spoken to neuro specialists at Duke University over 25 years ago to help us both gain a better understanding of just how definitely beneficial the medicinal properties of marijuana can go. Put *that* in your pipe and smoke it! The biggest danger of pot is it's illegality!

'Tis a far more rational solution than many would think to the many extended problems that prohibition of it creates!

It was made illegal by the testimony of Harry Anslinger in the 1930's .. "There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US,
and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers.
Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage.
This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations
with Negroes, entertainers and any others." by:Harry J. Anslinger
(1892-1975) Assistant Prohibition Commissioner in the Bureau of Prohibition, first Commissioner of the Treasury Department's Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN)(1930-1962, 32 years), US Representative to the United Nations Narcotics Commission
Source:testimony to US Congress supporting Marihuana Tax Act, 1937
By 1937, Anslinger was testifying in front of Congress to pass the Marijuana Tax Act in the hopes of essentially taxing marijuana out of business (as had previously been accomplished with opium). Settling in to testify, Anslinger relied on a number of sources, including himself, his employees, and articles in the Hearst newspapers which had been written by Harry Anslinger. Anslinger's campaign against marijuana had an hidden agenda, DuPont petrochemical interests and William Randolph Hearst together created the highly sensational anti-marijuana campaign to eliminate hemp as an industrial competitor. Around 1931 advertising started for hemp as the new billion dollar crop. Anslinger had reports from experiments with mechanical harvesting of hemp in 1936, reporting that the machines were no success.
"they were able to cut only a part of the Tribune Farm crop by machine, two thirds of it they did by hand with a sharp hand cutter...".By using the mass media as his forum (receiving much support from William Randolph Hearst), Anslinger propelled the anti-marijuana sentiment from the state level to a national movement. Writing for The American Magazine, the best examples were contained in his "Gore File", a collection of quotes from police reports, by later opponents described as police-blotter-type narratives of heinous cases, most with no substantiation, linking graphically depicted offenses with the drug. Anslinger used sometimes the very brief and concise language in many police reports when he wrote about drug crimes:

In those Congressional hearings, somebody thought it might be worth asking doctors about the health risks of marijuana. The American Medical Association at the time was absolutely opposed to making marijuana illegal, because it posed little risk and also because it was a valuable component in many medicines of the time. Consequently, the AMA opposed the ban, and testified as such during the Committee hearings.

Naturally, the AMA doctor was dismissed. And when the bill went to the floor, the Committee claimed that the AMA supported the act. In retaliation for the AMAís opposition, Harry Anslinger began aggressively prosecuting doctors for drug charges, until the AMA finally relented in 1939, which stopped the seemingly endless flow of prosecutions. In 1944, the New York Academy of Medicine released a study demonstrating that marijuana did not cause violence and had positive medical benefits, contradicting Anslingerís propaganda. As a result, the FBN banned all marijuana research in the United States. As head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, Harry Anslinger continued his insane crusade against marijuana until 1962, when he was fired by John F. Kennedy. But at that point, the damage was done, and the Federal government was firmly committed to a war on drugs. This is a war on drugs that has created untold misery for millions of Americans for the past 80 years.

Marijuana has never been shown to cause any harm to the brain...

None of the medical tests currently used to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana, even from long term high-dose use. An early study reported brain damage in rhesus monkeys after six months exposure to high concentrations of marijuana smoke. In a recent, more carefully conducted study, researchers found no evidence of brain abnormality in monkeys that were forced to inhale the equivalent of four to five marijuana cigarettes every day for a year. The claim that marijuana kills brain cells is based on a speculative report dating back a quarter of a century that has never been supported by any scientific study.
... I borrowed this from drugpolicy.org

That is nothing but another popular "reefer madness" propaganda tool used by a greedy racist to further his wealth and agendas.

Hemp is the natural, durable soft fiber from the stalk of Cannabis sativa plants that grow upwards of 20 feet tall. Cannabis plants used for hemp production are not valued for recreational uses as the plants that are cultivated for hemp produce minimal levels of THC,the same as attempting to get drunk from low-alcohol beer. Cannabis plants intended for any drug cultivation cannot be hidden in a hemp field either, as the size and height of each are significantly different.

Hemp producers sell hemp seeds as a health food, as they are rich in heart-healthy, essential fatty acids, amino acids (both essential and nonessential), vitamins and minerals. Hemp "milk" is a milk substitute also made from hemp seeds that is both dairy and gluten-free.

Hemp is fairly easy to grow and matures very fast compared to many crops, most notably trees used for paper. Compared to cotton for clothing, hemp cloth is known to be of superior strength and longer-lasting. The fibers may also be used to form cordage for industrial-strength ropes. Hemp plants also require little pesticides and herbicides due to its height, density and foliage. This also makes the hemp plant environmentally very friendly.

Hemp can be utilized for 25,000 very durable textile products, ranging from paper and clothing to biofuels (from the oils found in the seeds), medicines and construction material. Hemp has been used by many civilizations, from China to Europe (and later North America) for the last 12,000 years of history

This Country was built on hemp/cannabis.. Journals that are in the Library of Congress show that Our Founding Forefathers grew it for many things. They used it for many industrial purposes, medicinal purposes and for recreational use as well. As have many cultures throughout history.

Marijuana is nothing at all like heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine ,prescription medications, extasy, and many of the other designer drugs that are popular today. The single use of any of them can cause death, marijuana does not. The continued use of any of them can cause addiction, marijuana does not. There are no withdraw symptoms from marijuana other than slight irritability, with all the other above named drugs including alcohol the withdraw symptoms can range from the shakes, nausea and vomiting, hallucinating, seizure s,heart attack,or stroke, sometimes death...
Many people across the different tax brackets use marijuana either medicinally or for relaxation. Most are gainfully employed and have been most of their lives. Some of the greatest minds and talents throughout history used marijuana medicinally or for recreation.

Those studies have been shown to be wrong. The effects on the brain are minimal as well as to the memory, and any effects are short term and non-lasting. The research has shown that marijuana can treat disorders and other mental issues as well as an array of illnesses that can be treated effectively and safely with marijuana whereas the prescription medications that are for the same things cause more damage mentally and physically to a person's body.

btw... If You will notice at no point and time did I use derogatory remarks or name calling because I disagree with You... so that would make Who the fool?
