Please wait...
Marijuana was legal until the cotton lobby rallied against hemp to protect the industry's self interests. To accomplish this a media blitz ensued that created false accusations about pot that stillexist today. To call it a gateway drug to more additive drugs is disingenuous. Our founding fathers grew hemp for clothes and occasionally smoked the fruit, yet managed to avoid falling victim to opium and other drugs available in their day. We need only look to the violence south of the border to see the cost to society of enforcing laws against a drug that causes far less harm to society than alcohol and tobacco. Overcrowded prisons in the US are filled with non-violent, unfortunate young men and women who tried to supplement their income selling pot and ran into the cold hard law, which doesn't distinguish between the ferocity of a crime when meeting out punishment. Is the cost of enforcing the law against growing and selling a plant that thrived in the US until the early 20th century worth it? Just because something is legal doesn't mean it is good for you: saccharin, nitrates, etc. Yet, why is it that something that provides well established health benefits for certain illnesses is put in the same category as crack cocaine? We can make pot legal without saying it is OK for our nations youth to use it much like we do with other pain medications.

i believe that marijuana shuould be legalized for medicicinal and non medicinal use. there is already an outwhelming amount of people smoking and there going to continue. it will provide medicine for those who need it. not only that it will help support our economy by the cash crop value. for fact in the 1950s wisconsin was the only legal grower of marijuana in the states. there is an estimated 140 to 210 million dollar bonus for the economy of wisconisn just in the case of medicinal

If we don't remember our past we won't appreciate the irony when we repeat it. We tried prohibition of alcohol and created Al Capone and others. Drug cartels are destroying Mexico. A kilo of marijuana is far less dangerous than a bottle of Jack Daniels. No one has ever smoked them selves into a coma, but every year young college students drink them selves in to a coma and many times die from over intoxication and alcohol poisoning.

The hemp plant is not the mary j plant is not the hash plant. Dope was outlawed in 1920 to oppress blacks. Also, outlawing pot means ez money for thugs and cops. Amsterdam has had legal hash for 40 years. Wherever you live it is not better than there
