As a former law enforcement officer and "non-user", it's my personal opinion that we need to decriminalize it. A petition was signed by me to help get it on the ballot this fall in California. Hopefully, we'll be more open to treatment programs and less inclined to arrests. The money spent on the "drug war" should be spent on health and welfare of our citizens. If not, then in 2020 more than half of our population will have had arrest records and classified as non-contributory members of society. Let's tax drugs, prostitution and religion and eliminate the federal deficit.

Because if we are to legalize pot we might as well legalize crack, cocaine and heroine!

It sounds to me "Bob" like you want to live off the money of drug dealers, prostitiutes and churces, not eliminate the federal deficit. You were a pretty crooked law enforcement officer, weren't you? Have you ever checked out JohnTV on the internet!?

Seems a bit of a stretch there, "brutha of the I don't even live in Utah and am afraid to give me own name..." Bob didn't say anything about anything but marijuana. Why don't you keep your comments to Norfolk there Navy boy, and let us Westerners live the right way.

It's not bad for you, there's no way to over dose from it, people usually smoke it for a reason. Either depression or some other form of pain/ eating disorder.

Ban milk, becuase 99% of herion adicts drank milk before they started their addiction.
Milk is the gateway drug to herion addiction, and the lack of coffee leads to believing in a cult's rhetoric. lol
Look, the ban on pot started as a way to persecute Mexicans during the Great Depression. After that, it served as a way to punish various sub-cultures.
The war on drugs is as pointless, as the war on poverty. Legalize it all, and let Darwin sort it out.
Enjoy the Book of Morman, or as I call it,'Jesus, the Western'.'

This is an utterly senseless response, and it's typical of the "anti" arguments throughout Topix. On one side we have reasoned debate, on the other shrill, knee-jerk babbling. Is there any doubt that this is going to come to pass in the next few years?

I think it is ridiculous to have the prisons full of people who smoke pot or sell the stuff. They are costing us (tax payers) a fortune. It is no different than people who drink (it might even be better). If it was legal we would have more tax money for schools, the Zoo etc., everything that they raise our property taxes on every year.

Anyone who thinks marijuana use equals crack cocaine and heroin abuse, should probably think squirt guns and cap pistols equals a columbine school massacrer.

The harm caused by prohibition far outweighs the harm caused by usage.
