It's a lot less harmful than alcohol. How many marijuana users get locked up for acts of violence? How many users of alcohol?

If it's legal, we can tax it and regulate, to some degree, its distribution and use. Yes, underage people will smoke grass, but many already do so, much as underage people sometimes drink alcohol.

The laws against marijuana use were put in place by a cabal of timber interests, by a political appointee about to lose his job as a Volstead Act enforcement agent, and by William Randolph Hearst, of the publishing industry. In addition to its naturally pleasant effects when smoked or eaten, hemp has a great many uses.

Please, before you buy into the scare tactics of the police state, read up on hemp and its other uses. Because it's been illegal for as long as any living person can recall doesn't mean it must always and forever be illegal.

The percentage of users in our population is about the same as it was prior to its prohibition, and that holds true for other "dangerous" drugs.

All that have significantly changed are the crime rate (keeping drugs illegal keeps the price high), the number of people employed in enforcing the laws and keeping users locked up, and the number of people locked up for drug offenses.

If you really want people to stop smoking it, then you need to legalize it so the government will then step in and tax the f*** out of it. Although, I don't really care if people smoke it or not.

food, fiber, fuel, and fun.it is simple, safe(relativly) and the revenue generated could fund many programs and projects. choosing not to legalize is in my opinion just stupid.

If it has been decriminalized in other states w/o any problems, then Illinois should follow in their footsteps.
