Taxes could provide much needed revenue for state and local coffers, not to mention income and jobs.

Pot is less dangerous than many things we can buy at the pharmacy over the counter. It's less addictive than coffee and is nearly impossible to OD on. That said, It can make you lazy and can impair judgment. I think it should be controlled much like alcohol with age restrictions. I think i could help create jobs and yes make some money for the state.

b52sarecool, you sure are judgmental. There are plenty of successful people out there who do smoke some pot that I'm sure wouldn't like being stereotyped like that. That's like calling every person who drinks a beer a raging alcoholic. It should be a persons right to choose just as we can choose to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. We can even choose to abuse over the counter drugs if we wanted. All of which are FAR more dangerous than pot could ever be. There are MANY things we can buy that are legal and can really hurt us and yet remain legal. The only thing keeping it illegal is doing is making criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens.

This being an anonymous board, i can type anything i want as my name. I'm posting on a discussion about legalizing marijuana. I chose my name based on my position. Also yes stereotyped, according to you anybody who uses pot must be losers or a bunch of dopes but you say nothing to back it up. Actually i said more negative about it in my first post then you have in all your one and two sentence posts. All you've done is judge and call people names.

Stoned Presidents: U.S Presidents that Smoked Marijuana

Before marijuana prohibition began in the late 1930’s, many people, including some of our nations leaders
grew cannabis for a variety of reasons. It’s fairly well known that cannabis has thousands of industrial uses,
and has been grown for thousands of years. While simply growing cannabis is far from proof that someone
smoked it, there is still evidence showing many would-be U.S Presidents enjoyed it for recreational and medicinal uses.

George Washington
Washington routinely smoked marijuana to alleviate the pain from his ailing teeth.
Washington’s diary recounts his efforts to better cultivate and enhance his crops of marijuana.
Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson grew cannabis on his plantation and smuggled Chinese hemp seeds to America. He also is
believed to have given specialsmoking blends out as personal gifts which is why he makes the list.
James Madison
Madison once remarked that hemp gave him insight to create a new and democratic nation.
James Monroe
Monroe began smoking it as Ambassador to France & continued to the age of 73.
Andrew Jackson
Jackson has been documented to have smoked cannabis and tobacco cigars along withthe troops he led.
Zachary Taylor
Like Andrew Jackson, Taylor is said to have smoked with his troops in one or more of the
many wars he was in.
Franklin Pierce
Continuing a popular theme of the era, Pierce also smoked with his troops as a general in the Mexican-American War.
In a letter to his family, he says cannabis is “about the only good thing” in the war.
Abraham Lincoln
Quotes (real and fake) about Lincoln enjoying hemp are all over the internet. While some debate if Lincoln
sparked up, manyresources point to yes.
John F. Kennedy
Close acquaintances say Kennedy used cannabis regularly to control his back pain (even during his term) and
actually planned on legalizing marijuana during his second term.
Jimmy Carter
Along with his efforts to legalize marijuana, Some say Carter also hosted many marijuana smoke filled events
at the WhiteHouse. This leads most to assume Carter at least tried it at some point in life.
George W. Bush
Bush publicly refused to answer the marijuana question. He was later caught saying he refused to talk about it
“because I don’t want some little kid doing what I tried”.
Bill Clinton
Clinton famously stated that he smoked but “didn’t inhale”. He has been known to bend the truth every now and then,
so he still makes the list
Barack Obama
Even though he joked off many American’s wishes to legalize marijuana, Obama has been very open with his own marijuana
smoking in the past, once saying “I inhaled frequently. That was the point”.

With my job I have known hundreds if not thousands of people that smoke dope and none are winners. I'm not talking about people that smoke two or three times a year. I'm talking about people that burn two or three times a week.

Ok, so you must be some form of L.E. I know lots of smokers but those numbers are just crazy unless your job is to arrest or detain them. If that's the case tho i wouldn't say you've KNOWN them. It just means you arrested them and judged all people who smoke it based on them. When you go looking for criminal's you're probably going to find them. I'd venture to say for every one arrested there are at least 2 elsewhere smoking calmly in their homes minding their own business and who don't break any other laws. I know plenty of this type and even met a cop or two who enjoy it. Most of this type you wouldn't even know exist because they are everywhere, just your normal average joe. you know B52sArecool, I'm not arguing that pots good for you or that it's something everyone should do. I just feel it should be a persons choice without being labeled a criminal. It should be restricted like with alcohol and tobacco. It's Certainly no more dangerous. Both Alcohol & Tobacco are Physically addictive. Pot is Habit forming yes but it's more like being addicted to coffee or Pop. Alcohol Destroys your liver and Tobacco is well known to be a leading cause of lung cancer while some forms of lung cancer may be treated with Pot. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/... AND has many other medicinal uses. what can tobacco or alcohol treat? I should also note that aside from ingesting it, there are many industrial uses for the plant if legalized. It can be grown for fiber for paper, ropes and other textiles. Marijuana can even be used as "Biomass" fuel, where the pulp (hurd) of the hemp plant can be burned as is or processed into charcoal, methanol, methane, or gasoline. It has the potential to someday replace gasoline and could save many trees as well.

lol another one of your brilliant one line replys. You don't know me. I've got a life and I'm quite happy with it. I've got a good job, a wife, a kid, 3 dogs and a whole extended family who love me very much. It doesn't get much more real then this. why don't you pull that very large stick out your bumm and listen and try to reply to what's said rather than resorting back to your ignorant no nothing comments. Get a life and get over it. Your the minority in this conversation and it seems to be that way all over America.

I think that it's less harmful than alcohol, even though I don't smoke it....so why not tax it, instead of taking my paycheck, because I can barely survive as it is, and insurance just keeps going up

The sad fact is that a certain person isn't making much sense right now. They seem to be talking nonsense, or maybe they've got the wrong end of the stick but are hanging on to it for grim death and refuse to let you correct them. Mind you, there's also the possibility that you're the one who has got themselves in a muddle but doesn't realize it. Scary!
