It is a plant, no different than dandelions or basil, it grows. Although it may have mind-altering effects when smoked, it is only because we are stimulating the Canabanoids in our brain. It is the only plant that stimulates this area of the brain, but the fact that we have a specialized portion embedded within us to makes you wonder why it would be illegal.

On the other hand, you have other plants, which are perfectly legal to buy/sell/smoke but can seriously injure you e.g Salvia. Marijuana at least gives you the ability to think for yourself, while smoking Salvia can render your entire body useless for a period of about 10 minutes or even longer...

there should never be a law against doing something an individual wants to do that doesn't violate anyone else's privacy or rights. A little pot shouldn't boil over.

Marijuana IS a gateway drug, ask those that use drugs where they started out. As a former pot user I can vouch for this fact & that smoking it leads to plenty of problems. We have enough issues with alcohol use lets not add more in these crazy times!

Alan, just because it was a gateway drug for you, doesn't necessarily mean it is for everyone. Marijuana doesn't cause even a fraction of the issues that alcohol does, too compare the two is asinine. Yes it should be legal. Should alcohol be legal? No. Should cigarettes be legal? No, because too many people have died from the use of both. Tell me the stats on how many people have died or contracted some life threatening disease due to smoking weed. I have not heard of any. It's all a political mess is what it is. And it's ridiculous!

Alchohol's leagal, it causes serosis of the liver, Tobaccos legal, it causes many different types of cancer, and they use what to help with the illnesses, marijuana. Plus when was the last time you heard of someone smoking straight up pot and going out to kill someone, never they're more interested in eating and watching t.v. further more its been provent that if canibus was legal our country would be out of debt in less than 10 years. Wheres the bad side of legalization.

@sfs & Legalizeit: wait until it becomes legal then more people will use it and THEN you can compare stats. Until then its an un-equal playing field. Why do you want it to become legal? If you use it you'll pay the same or more for lower quality buds & you'll be paying tax to the gubment as well! Besides you wont be able to simply "light-up" wherever you like because the same laws the limit cigarette smoking will be applied to pot! Think because your wish may just come true & turn into a nightmare:-)

Well, it's obvious the people have conflicting opinions about the issue, but no one here has mentioned anything I haven't heard before. Marijuana is no more a gateway drug than drinking coffee is. If anyone seriously told someone that marijuana caused them to start doing harder stuff then I'd say their full of it.. maybe if he/she were 13 or something it would make sense, but at some point in time a person realizes they can do what they want..

It's when people start deciding to actually do the harder stuff is when the propaganda comes arise. Pointing at a complete and blatantly addicted crackhead and saying "Marijuana did this!" is completely insane. It wasn't the marijuana, it was the crack.

What I don't understand about all these legality issues is.. Why is it legal in some states and not others? If it's going to be illegal, then make it illegal. Even though I know it already is on federal level, why would they even give state's the chance to have it legal if it's so horrible.

I would say that marijuana laws fall into the same class as the death penalty or abortion clinics, but where are the human rights in a plant? Even cocaine is considered a Substance II Controlled Substance (meaning it's somewhat legal) while marijuana is only a Substance I (illegal)

i think that there could be many health care options that marijuana could help with. i think it could help with pain, ppl with nerve issues or ptsd...the list goes on and God put it here for a reason! It doesnt have to be abuse, medacine is abused, does that mean we should quit taking it or making it? GOd put it here and if used right i think there are so many things that could be fixed health wise and drug wise.we have too many ppl on pills!!!

Its not addicting.(no evidence what so ever)
Its becoming legal in many more places very frequently.
It has very many benefits to health and there is no actual proof that it harms your other than the physical smoke.

If anything needs to be illegal its booze and tobacco. which is proven to kill. Im sure that many people reading this post even smoke cigs or drink.

Do your research people. Ignorance kills too.
