It is and has always been a grossly over punished crime, that should have never been a crime. We, have WAISTED untold billions of $$$$ and hours of police work that could have been put to much better use.

I would not someone who is high or on any other drug. Working on my car, as my doctor, or around my children such as an educator or day care worker. I am thinking of peoples health and safety.

I do not want my kids around someone on drugs. I would not have my kids educated by a druggie or cared for by one nor would I want my vehicle fixed or my doctor high! You allow drugs and things will get worse crime is already at an all time high murders and theft will follow loss of morals and ethics That is not the enviroment I want my kids in.

I understand what your saying but...how do you know for sure if your doctor or other professional is not doing drugs or Alcoholic? We've had this war on drugs for over forty year...what is our exist strategy?

Controlled legalization, I'm not saying any kind of a free for all. The statistics say 3 out of 5 people in the US are on something now,you would be surprised how many physicians are on various controlled substances. Many people are functioning abusers of controlled substances, just fact.Marijuana is one of the least harmful of all controlled substances, it can be used relatively safely, especially with mild to moderate use. There are even safer ways to consume it,i.e. vaporizers. It is far less problematic than alcohol or tobacco, far less.

Marijuana was officially illegalized in 1937 under the Marijuana Tax Act. There was never any studies done to see if there were any harmful affects from the use of marijuana. In fact, the drug was only put to the legislature because of the 1914 Harrison Act which illegalized drugs such as Heroine, Cocaine, opium, etc. It was also a racial malignmant by Harry J. Anslinger who started a biased campaign against the drug in the late 1920's and early 30's.

Like many I believe the drug should be legalized but not a free for all as one post put it. I think that there should still be laws against improper distribution and use among minors and those who are caught driving under the influence. If anyone is interested enough you can check out Californias Proposition 19. The vote to legalize marijuana for recreational use comes up in November. California got the vote for medical marijuana years ago and 14 states have followed. If they pull this through, who knows maybe all those states will also follow.
