Any time a government tries to enforce morality and private behavior without sufficient evidence of ill effect, WE ALL LOSE. I personally have never cared for marijuana, but I do care about the erosion of our civil liberties. So I say, smoke 'em if you got 'em!

If handled properly, many benefits. Yes regulation would need to be a big part. We could learn something from the places that have and are practicing the legalization of MMJ. BACK GROUND CHECKS, security, and proper documentation, to just name a few. Benefits can actually bring money into the Parishes, towns, communities and families that are important to us. Come on people, it is not "all about getting 'high'". Would really like to hear more!

Let me just get to my point.....beer, wine, whiskey, gin, vodka, etc.... are ALL mind altering drugs, in which you cannot disagree. As with beer, a complex series of biochemical reactions must take place to convert barley to fermentable sugars, and to allow yeast to live and multiply, converting those sugars to alcohol. Commercial breweries use sophisticated equipment and processes to control hundreds of variables so that each batch of beer will taste the same. The process is somewhat similar for most other spirits. Manufacturers of alcoholic beverages take ingredients, chemically change their composition, to produce the end product.....a product that is mind altering.....Marijuana is an herb....the chemical composition of marijuana is not changed....(I do understand there is marijuana on the streets that have been infused with other chemicals)...I do not agree with this....As far as plain marijuana.....it is less harmful than alcohol, and you know it. Have you ever seen a belligerent "high" person. I don't think so....I haven't done the research but I bet if you did, the casualties or injuries resulting from a wreck caused by a "high" individual would be far less than that of a drunk individual. When a person stops in at a local pub to get a drink and relax from the stressful day they had at work...do they order a non-alcoholic drink....I don't think so.....why not? Because they want a buzz.....they want to knock the "edge" off....and what does this?....Alcohol....a mind altering drug. As far as the debate that marijuana is a "gateway" drug...this is horsecrap ....There is a thing called responsibility.....fatty foods can be defined as a "gateway" drug to eating more and fattier foods, and eventually you become obese. Gambling can be a "gateway" drug. Beer can be a "gateway" drug to drinking stronger drinks such as whiskey, etc....eventually becoming an alcoholic (that is to say you weren't one while drinking beer). Why don't beer, whiskey, and all other spirit manufacturers make all their products non-alcoholic.....sounds crazy doesn't it.....because people demand the mind altering drug "ALCOHOL"....Again, marijuana is an herb......not a chemically manufactured drug. Now, I do need to explain, that I am NOT for the legalization of other drugs such as cocaine, meth, etc.. Again, these drugs require chemically changing the composition of the ingredients to produce the drug.....with cocaine, coca leaves are stripped from the plant and crushed, chopped, and/or pounded and mixed with a solution of alcohol, gasoline, kerosene, or some other solvent that will separate the cocaine from the leaves. The resulting liquid contains unpurified cocaine alkaloids and may additionally contain waxy material from the leaves. This waxy material can be removed by heating and then cooling the mixture, a process that solidifies the unwanted wax. I could go on...the point is....Marijuana is an herb.......there is no mixing, cooking, distilling, etc....as there is with alcohol and other drugs. If Marijuana is illegal...then why isn't beer, whiskey, gin, vodka, etc..? Anyone that has any lick of common sense cannot argue this......I think it is a complete double standard for it to be perfectly legal for someone to get wasted on a chemically manufactured drug (alcohol), but it is illegal for me to smoke some marijuana that nothing has been done to.....

I love how people try to rationalize the legalization of marijuana by compairing it to alchol and drunk drivers. The reason you find less "high drivers" is simply because weed is not legal, and the average person doesnt want to take the risk of getting caught with weed on them. If you could walk into a bar and order a joint, the amount of crashes caused by people high on weed would significantly increase(as it impairs your motor skills just as alcohol and medication do). Take for example prescription medication, most of which people take to get "high" are downers. Not too often you find someone messed up on pills that is belligerant(as bubba noted with weed, but I would guess that 8 out of 10 intoxicated drivers now days are messed up on pills, and why? because they are legal, and easy to get a hold of, you can eat em all day long as long as you have a bottle with your name on it. If weed was as accessable as prescription meds, we would be having the same issue with it.

Obviously,crime rate will increase.
The economy is too poor to start thinking of that now.Pls don't legalize it.For the fact that it alters the brain composition, why should someone think of it?
