And you'll eventually get arrested and stand in front of the local magistrate and cry like a baby begging to not have to go to jail or have a permanent record, end up on probation, which you'll violate, end up in jail, and some day wake up and realize you're a pothead and have done absolutely nothing constructive with your life. HAVEN'T MET ONE YET THAT I WOULD TRADE PLACES WITH.

The only thing I've been arrested for is alcohol abuse buddy, and a dog-at-large ticket lol (I didn't cry, well at least not like a baby ;)For your information I'm currently at college in columbia, and I happen to know a man that makes probably way more then you, being a lawyer and all.... I've smoked with him on several occasions, one question for you, have you ever smoked the miracle plant?? Haha, also, I never asked you to trade places with me, just to open your mind a little, it's sad that I can't participate in something I enjoy because of ignorant, self-righteous people as yourself. I'm trying to have an intelligent debate here so please shoot back with something besides "And you'll eventually get arrested and stand in front of the local magistrate and cry like a baby." It makes me feel like I'm being taunted on a playground...

Also, I see that you've taken the "weed is a gateway drug" route. Well, my first drug definantly wasn't marijuana, it was caffine, which I suppose you ingest every morning in your cup of coffee. So should caffine be illegal? Energy drinks are dangerous, they've made me nauseous, even vomit, and the "energy shot" products distributed by several countries are especially dangerous, as several ingested at one time can lead to cardiac arrest. I am simply trying to show you that you stand for a very ignorant viewpoint, and you're quite violent about it, almost seems as though you're in denial or something? Care to enlighten me??

weed is perfectly safe, the game kinda sucks in jackson...which is why it needs to be legalised, its wayy safer than alchol and tobbacco...facts: (if in otherwise good health) weed will increase energy by 40%, it cant increase or enlarge cancer cells, ..unlike tobbacco products, and if your worried about your lungs, just use a vaporizer, they get you higher anyways--in otherwords..smoke pot :)

Arsenic is natural but I'm not going to take it. You need to get more info on the harms of marijuana. It's actually worse in your lungs than cigarettes.

I am appalled by some of these posts by the people defending marijuana use. Orson, I apologize for the rudeness of some of these people. You make some very good points about how there is no scientifically ground evidence that marijuana has medical usage in modern day society. However, I do believe that you are missing the big picture.
When marijuana was made illegal around the mid 1930's, and when the Mandatory Sentencing Act was set in place in the 1950's (an act which made a simple charge of possessing marijuana a mandatory sentence of 2 to 20 years), it was commonly believed that simply punishing marijuana users would be enough to discourage use by other people. But time has taught me that this is not the case.
PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SMOKE MARIJUANA WILL SMOKE IT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT IS LEGAL OR NOT.
This last point is clearly made obvious by the 'hippie' generation. I believe they were trying to prove that exact statement. Sure, nothing good became of that generation (for the most part), but they did make a point.
In these modern times I think it is most important for Americans to be able to adapt. Making marijuana illegal is obviously not working, so why not try making it legal?
I'd like to point out that Portugal had one of the world's worst drug problems. Portugal's government saw that harsher punishment was not having an effect, so they made the drastic decision to legalize the use of all drugs. Astonishingly, this actually DECREASED the number of drug users (according to anonymous before-and-after surveys) and had a serious impact on the number of drugs being illegally imported into the country, because most of the illicit drugs that were once sold like gold on the black market are now sold cheap and legally by government-regulated dispensaries. This makes another point that some (not all) drug use is influenced by the the fact that the act of using drugs is illegal.
I'm not saying that making marijuana legal will make people stop smoking, but the only thing thats happening now is hundreds of thousands of non-violent criminals being put in jail because they want to catch a buzz.
I'm also not saying that we shouldn't put the people who sell marijuana illegally in jail, but making marijuana legal, cheap, and easily accessable will be the easiest and fastest way to put those types of society-leeching criminals out of business for good. And maybe after that, they'll be able to focus on the real world and maybe get a real job and really contribute to society.
Making marijuana legal will also decrease (but not completely stop) the amount being imported illegaly from Mexico and Canada, for the same reasons that I described in the last few sentences.
I do smoke marijuana, but I will also agree that it has honestly done nothing for me except make me laugh. But, in a world as crowded and polluted and full of completely different opinions as this...isn't that the best we can hope for?
I don't think that everyone should smoke weed, but I do hope the people who do not wish to smoke will not infringe upon my basic human right to pursue happiness. Not saying weed is the only thing that makes me happy in life, but it is one of the many things that brings me pleasure. And if you want to keep me from doing something that I like, you might as well start banning people from playing sports, watching tv, going to the mall, ect.

I think I've made my point.

Gee, I think we should all spend our time and effort trying to make something as useless and mope creating as pot legal. I really appreciate the brilliant incite into the justifications people (potheads) use. I really think it's a great idea to legalize moron weed in the hopes people will trade getting drunk for getting stoned so the roads will be safer. God also created uranium, lead, salt water, and all kinds of other toxic substances. I suggest you pot proponents spend your time doing something MEANINGFUL like helping illiterate people learn to read, volunteer at Habitat For Humanity, campaign for a truly worthy cause. I realize these types of pursuits require thought and effort and those VIRTUES are a little outside your abilities so at least do the rest of us a favor and make sure you don't forget to show up for your court dates.
Yes but the stuff you said are also useful Salt from salt water lead bullets uranium power plants everything natural has a use i would like regular tobacco legalized more cigarettes are only bad because of the bad chemicals in it cigarettes are only bad cause of the substances and there sold because the government gets a lot off it they would be earning more if they didn't add chemicals so i would preffere cigarettes just taking out the harsh chemicals over pot (Indians used it all the time nothing happened)so yes pot over drunk addicts and tv makes pot look worse than booze.

I'm not buying the "pot is safer than alcohol" argument. Comparing one bad thing against another doesn't make either of them good or beneficial. Allowing alcohol and tobacco use to be legal has definitely not been beneficial to society. There are hundreds of thousands of dead people who became that way because of the effects of these other vices. Legalizing marijuana will increase its use and will just add more deaths to the list. Believe it or not, possibly being arrested actually is a deterrant to quite a few people when considering whether or not they should do something. Yes, you can contract cancer from marijuana just like tobacco. It's carcinogenic to smoke anything!!! Smoke does not belong in your lungs!!!I'm also not buying the "people are going to do it anyway, so you should make it legal" argument. There are lots of crimes people commit that don't need to be legalized. When you advocate drug use (THC is a drug), you glamorize something horrible to young, impressionable folks. There is absolutely nothing glamorous or redeeming about sitting around smoking weed. Finally, this has no political future. If you think a majority of elected legislators are going to put their necks on the line to stand in favor of legalization of marijuana, you need only take a poll of ours. Neither of our U.S. Senators, nor our Congresswoman, nor our State Senator, nor our State Reps bootheel wide, nor even our liberal President are in favor of the legalization of marijuana. the only persons advocating this are potheads and there aren't as many of them around as you folks would like the rest of us to believe. So just keep on pleasing our foreign and domestic enemies by indulging in this absolutely worthless endeavor and proclaiming your defiance to the laws we have placed in effect to protect us. Your arguments and rationalizations are weak and foolish and will never gain widespread acceptance.

People who want to smoke marijuana will do so no matter what anyone else says. People who want to smoke rock will do so no matter what anyone else says. Honestly though, anyone who becomes full on addicted to marijuana is a very weak willed and weak minded person. I do partake, but in no way does my life depend on it. The first sentence of my post says enough. This argument will never end so there's truly no reason in fighting about it. I need say no more.

It's considered a gateway drug because to buy it, you must go through a dealer that may sell harder drugs. It wouldn't be a gateway drug if it were commercially available in a safe environment.
