I'm all for it. If marajuana is legalized then the prisons could make room for more hardened crimilans instead of complaioning of over crouding or building even more prisons and complaining about the cost of housing of pettey criminals who's only offence was selling or smoking weed.

I am up in the air about it,I dont smoke ,but I have tried it.. I did have fun a few times but it seem to make me paranoid and nervous,I do feel that drinking and other perscription drugs are worse by far then pot,but in 85% of cases it is a gateway drug,so I dont think it would be worth turning people to harder drugs,I say make it legal for medical use only? Hell they say everyone is bi-polar these days and Pot treats that so there ya go.. Problem solved lol

In a 2010 report by the Common Sense for Drug Policy Organization, the American annual causes of death were classified under the following categories:

Tobacco Related 430,700
Alcohol Related 110,640
Prescription Drugs 32,000
Suicide 30,575
Homicide 18,272
Drug Induced Deaths 16,926
NSAID’s (such as Aspirin) 7,600
Marijuana 0 deaths

Before you start to wonder about the veracity of the figures above, you should be aware that no one has ever been officially declared dead from direct or indirect marijuana consumption.

Effects of Marijuana on the Brain. Researchers have found that THC changes the way in which sensory information gets into and is acted on by the hippocampus. This is a component of the brain's limbic system that is crucial for learning, memory, and the integration of sensory experiences with emotions and motivations. Investigations have shown that THC suppresses neurons in the information-processing system of the hippocampus. In addition, researchers have discovered that learned behaviors, which depend on the hippocampus, also deteriorate.
Effects on the Lungs. Someone who smokes marijuana regularly may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers have. These individuals may have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds. Continuing to smoke marijuana can lead to abnormal functioning of lung tissue injured or destroyed by marijuana smoke.
Regardless of the THC content, the amount of tar inhaled by marijuana smokers and the level of carbon monoxide absorbed are three to five times greater than among tobacco smokers. This may be due to marijuana users inhaling more deeply and holding the smoke in the lungs.
Effects of Marijuana Use during Pregnancy. Research has shown that babies born to women who used marijuana during their pregnancies display altered responses to visual stimuli, increased tremulousness, and a high-pitched cry, which may indicate problems with neurological development. During infancy and preschool years, marijuana-exposed children have been observed to have more behavioral problems and to perform tasks of visual perception, language comprehension, sustained attention, and memory more poorly than non-exposed children do. In school, these children are more likely to exhibit deficits in decision-making skills, memory, and the ability to remain attentive.
It is less harmful to lungs than cigarettes are and the only long term effects to the brain is to the memory cells. And we all know that with age the memory goes any way. and its only short term memory that it effects. A problem we all face simply by being stressed. get upset forget where u put your keys, stand to get something forget what it was a common side effect of 70% of prescription and non prescription drugs. It don't kill ppl like alcohol does everyday. If fact there has not been even 1 case where marijuana was the cause of death in US history, just that people have died with it in there system but it was not a contributing cause of death. http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/18...
thats a link of pro's and cons of mirjuana. less harmful to your health than having a child or marring an adusive person. There are bad things about it I will agree, but hell u can't take cold medicine without being at risk for some more harmful side effects.
just saying

Effects of Heavy Marijuana Use on Learning and Social Behavior. A study of college students has shown that critical skills related to attention, memory, and learning are impaired among people who use marijuana heavily, even after discontinuing its use for at least 24 hours. Researchers compared 65 "heavy users," who had smoked marijuana a median of 29 of the past 30 days, and 64 "light users," who had smoked a median of 1 of the past 30 days. After a closely monitored 19- to 24-hour period of abstinence from marijuana and other illicit drugs and alcohol, the undergraduates were given several standard tests measuring aspects of attention, memory, and learning. Compared to the light users, heavy marijuana users made more errors and had more difficultyy sustaining attention, shifting attention to meet the demands of changes in the environment, and in registering, processing, and using information. The findings suggest that the greater impairment among heavy users is likely due to an alteration of brain activity produced by marijuana.
Longitudinal research on marijuana use among young people below college age indicates those who used have lower achievement than the non-users, more acceptance of deviant behavior, more delinquent behavior and aggression, greater rebelliousness, poorer relationships with parents, and more associations with delinquent and drug-using friends.

I do not think marijuana is half as bad for ppl as alcohol and it is legal. I also believe it is a better choice to treat some conditions than scripts.

In college i was asked to research this issue. What i constantly heard from supporters during my surveys was "the government can tax it and make money". However that is not true, the federal government actually looses money by regulating and taxing alcohol and tobacco, so how would Marijuana be any different?

For example, the federal government says that it is illegal to sell or distribute prescription pain killers, however it is still occurring in Appalachia and other parts of the country. So even if Marijuana was taxed, do you think that everyone would stop growing it in their basement and simply report their earnings to the IRS for taxation? No likely, in fact before the drug was outlawed, a federal tax stamp was given to the producers of marijuana, and you guessed it, taxes were never paid from those distributors or growers, so why do the criminals of America think that this will somehow change in todays world?

Reality and common sense tells us that narcotics bring crime. For example, Denver Colorado recently found that drug related crime has actually increased since medical marijuana dispensaries were legalized and that adolescent use has also increased....why?

We all drank beer in high school, how did we get it? We asked someone over 21 to buy it for us right, same thing with marijuana, it doesnt matter if the legal age is 18 or 21 kids will find a way to get it even if it means committing armed robbery or breaking and entering.

Bottom line is it will NOT help any community or society if marijuana is legalized, and im sure the uneducated pot heads will beat the "tax" issue to death, and i will say that you can find non peer reviewed information on the internet to support this, however before you come back at this issue please check your facts

Legalize it, control the growing of it, and put a mighty tax on it. If you market it in low impact test areas to set guidelines then its quite possible to legalize it everywhere. If its legal to buy it from a state store and highly illegal to buy it from hmm Bub down on the corner by the school or something, chances are 90% of people are going to buy it legally. This alone would drive down the price of street weed to the point of zero profitability.. All while being sold at the consumer level at say a "20%" tax rate. Obviously there would have to be some kinks worked out and misconceptions cleared up.
*You CAN'T drive under the influence
-Doing so will get you the same punishment as drinking and driving
*Marihuana will still be prohibited at the work place and you could still be fired if it shows up in your system after any random drug tests.
*cultivation will still be highly illegal and punishable
Regulate and tax it. It might change our countries financial status in just a couple years.
