Although I think smoking pot is stupid and offensive, it's also none of my damn business. The US should not imprison people for being stupid or offensive, if we are going to do that, we should start with Fox News and move on to Congress.

No it's not libertarian because I think the only way for it to be legally permissible is if it is highly regulated and taxed. You just don't get it, do you!

Why would you want weed to be legalized, imagine a big company like RJ Reynolds producing joints loaded with all sorts of deadly chemicals just to make a profit. Keep it illegal....keep it safe!

I vote yes because the prohibition was based on lies by people that wantes to control the masses. Today there is way to much money involved with police judges lawyers all making money on the backs of common people. Pot is a natural plant and should be used in many ways not just to ge high , but as medicine and industial uses , which are too many to list.

Its prohibition was actually inspired by W.R. Hurst. The thought was that we could get all the paper we needed from hemp,(Hemp was easy to grow and a better medium for making paper than wood ever could be) but W.R. Hurst had enormous timber stands and lobbied for the prohibition so that he could sell his timber for a much higher price. So not only was grass made illegal, it's illegality has propagated the timber industry's rapacious hunger to strip the land of as many acres of trees as they could and can. It always comes down to a rich guy vs. nature, and we always seem to lose.

First, it's Hearst.

Second, he was a Democrat.

Third, the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 was introduced by, wait for it, Rep. Robert L. Doughton, a Democrat from North Carolina.

For reference, the spelling of Marihuana was the way it was spelled when the bill was introduced and enacted as law in 1937.

Thank you for the correction... The meat of the tale is true!

Come on Sonny. You never pass up an oppotunity to slam Republicans and Libertarians. Let's hear what you've got to say about Democrats who were instrumental in criminalizing pot. Your very party let you down here.

I have a very good feeling that the Democratic Party in my lifetime is a completely different party. Actually I was 2 years old when the Civil Rights Bill was ratified... So in my lifetime, what you would call the modern Democratic Party was born and we shook off the modern day republican party (Dixiecrat s). So your argument is a little out of date, sorry to disappoint you.
