There were more illegal speakeasies during prohibition of alcohol than there are legal drinking establishments in the USA today.

During the 1960's there was a tavern on every corner and a bar in the middle of every street. The streets were literally lined with taverns.

It was building codes and strict enforcement of DUI that ended the beer tavern. That could be the reason for the rise in marywana and cocaine use (along with strict limits on govt welfare ending generation welfare).

It helps with stress from college & being a parent. Also a close friend of mine just lost her husband, thats the only thing that has worked to make he smile, eat & laugh. I think most people could abuse it, but if you do it correctly. In your own home and away from minors, I do Not think it should be illegal. YOU KNOW MY UNCLE WAS NOT KILLED FROM A WOMEN WHO SMOKED A JOINT BUT FROM A DRUNK DRIVER!!!! That is the issue, drinking & driving. And men who beat their wives, in a drunken rage!!!!

I think we need to regulate and tax marijuana use--just like alcohol. This would eventually lower crime, and provide more services for citizens.

If it was ligalized the gov could tax it and use $ to fight other liferuning drugs. It is helpful in many ways medically.

I have yet to see a lucid explanation from anyone as to how weed is any worse than alcohol and why alcohol is legal and weed is not.
It is estimated that if weed was legalized, regulated and taxed like alcohol and tobacco, the revenue would be $6 billion plus another $6-7 billion saved in enforcement costs.
not to mention the jobs created in sales, distribution, etc....and if weed was legal....so would be hemp....and there is another billions of dollars industry that would be created, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of jobs that would be created in that industry as well....

i fail to see why it remains so illegal when if it were legal.....
it would be win-win for everyone

Marijuana inebriated driving is less harmful than alcohol inebriated driving.
Marijuana can be regulated and provide a much needed economic stimulus for states that are in the red.
Marijuana does not necessarily lead to 'hard' drugs like cocaine; just like beer drinking does not necessarily lead to doing shots of whiskey... however, if it is illegal, the guy you're buying it from will definitely try to upsell whatever else he's got, just like a bar will have a 'deal' on Kessler and Strohs. Making Marijuana legal and controlled, snips that connection.

I have an auto immune disease. It is the ONLY thing that keeps me eating, so I do not need a feeding tube, & also helps BIG TIME with the horrendous pain. Also, I can sleep. Which is essential for me to stay somewhat well.

The police are against it and most Amerikanos support the pigs. What would the pigs do with all of their drug sniffing dogs ?

The police are against it because a) they get funding for it, b) legalizing it would reduce their funding, c) they might have to actually go find real criminals who are more likely to be dangerous and d) they'd rather bust folks for doing relatively harmless things like possessing pot since they are less likely to be dangerous (that or writing speeding tickets or parking tickets).

It is the equivalent to asking a life time welfare recipient if they think welfare benefits should expire for those who abuse the system. Of course they are gonna say no for the simple fact that it is against their own self interest.

As I said, there is an entire micro-economy within this country, with prisons, police, dea, built around the war on drugs.

Government allows for a sale of Alcohol, and Tylenol - two of the most deadly items that are regulated by government. Often both items are sold in one package - Nyquil with full knowledge that both of those drugs combined greatly increase their harm .
