You can't enforce a law that Americans don't want enforced. The only way I can see prohibition working is if we voluntarily or involuntarily throw away our civil liberties.

I feel the only way to win the war on drug use is to have public humiliation of the offenders. For example if we had stocks like in the colonial days it would be humiliating and uncomfortable but it would not be cruel. A marijuana smoker would have to stand or sit with his or her head and arms in the stocks for one day. Crackheads would have to spend 2 days in the stocks. Meth, Cocaine and heroin users would have to spend 3 days in the stocks. Family members could come feed them. They could have a little booth put around them for privacy when they have to have bodily functions.
Growers, Dealers and transporters of marijuana, crack, meth and heroin should be subjected to public whippings. Yes, I know it is cruel but these people are despicable criminals who thumb their noses at the laws of this land. First offense: 40 lashes for marijuana growers and transporters of any illegal drugs, 100 lashes for dealers of any illegal drug. Second offense punishment doubles. Subsequent offense would be public execution by firing squad.
I feel that this severe punishment would end illegal drug use in this country. It would also control the misfits in society who think that the law doesn't apply to them.
Also, if we used firing squads it would be a quick and cheap way of controlling the population by instantly eliminating criminals instead of housing them in prisons.

Walter you are wrong. Americans do want to see the law enforced. The way to enforce the law is to make the punishment so terrible that no one in their right mind would want to break it. Our jails are crowded with criminals that possess and smoke the illegal substance marijuana. Wouldn't it be better, and much cheaper to publicly humiliate them by making them stand or sit with their arms and head in (colonial type) stocks on a public street for 1-3 days for a first offense. For the second and third offense they would have to have a public whipping of up to 50 lashes across the back. They would be warned that on the next offense they would face the firing squad. THAT WOULD STOP THE CRIMINAL USE OF MARIJUANA IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!

Does anyone here realize that the Greatest supporters of NOT legalizing are the Cartels, Growers and sellers themselves? They raise the most hell, because if legalized, they wouldn't have a hold on the 'Hood or Projects, or people that want it for an Alcohol replacement. Don't take that grip of fear from the Cartel and Dealer, we might start to get along then, and, the "Powers" could then concentrate on Rape and Murder, not the lowlife dealer or Cartel. think, People, think!!!!!

Can't do that, remember, they are all "Victims" of the environment. That envirnment was made by those that allow it to exist, not those that force it away, but yet we are blamed for the "Plight" they created for themselves, and the Left makes us pay through the nose for those that won't help clear up the mess. If the mess were cleaned up, those that squall the most about the situation would squall louder, because you just interrupted their neat little "Pity me, the vitim" income and free ride at the Public Teat.

I have always believed that housing career criminals is a waste of money and time. They sit in jail for decades and we, the taxpayers foot the bill. Why not re-institute the death penalty? We already have the death penalty for unborn fetuses and they have done absolutely nothing wrong. These career criminals are constantly repeating crimes, sometimes violent crimes, clog up our court system THAT COSTS US MONEY. Then they are sentenced to long term prison THAT COSTS US MONEY.

Like NAACP member I believe in swift justice. I also believe executions should be public so that people can see what happens if you commit crime!

BRING BACK THE FIRING SQUAD!!!

Prohibition will never work. Not even God himself could stop it. Think about Adam and Eve. All he had to look after were two people.

You can make the laws as harsh as you want but its never going to go away.

naacp member sounds like an internet 'tough guy' blogging from his moms basement. What a total moron and scumbag! By the way most REAL conservatives are in favor of legalization leaving you moronic sissified rednecks behind. Who in the hell do you people think you are to tell citizens what they can and can't do in their own homes.

it's insane to outlaw nature.. it's like saying God was wrong. I smoke weed everyday and I am a friendly and contributing citizen. I deffinitely have a positive impact on my neighbors and with weed I don't need to take sleeping pills or antideppresants.

Alcohol is far worse and kills, to boot.

Marijuana, being illegal doesn't deter most users.
I approve whole-heartedly - especially for medical use.

DO THE RESEARCH!!!!

THC (One of over 400 chemicals in Marijuana smoke) directly effects brain function.

From Drugfree.org :
What are its short-term effects?
Short-term effects of marijuana include PROBLEMS WITH MEMORY and learning, distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch), trouble with thinking and problem solving, loss of motor coordination, INCREASED HEART RATE, and anxiety. These effects are even greater when other drugs are mixed with weed. A user may also experience dry mouth and throat.

What are its long-term effects?
Marijuana smoke contains some of the same cancer-causing compounds as tobacco, sometimes in higher concentrations.Studies show that someone who smokes five joints per week may be taking in as many CANCER CAUSING chemicals as someone who smokes a full pack of cigarettes every day.

From NAMR.Cannabis/research.org
Researchers at Johns Hopkins have documented cases of long term regular users of Cannabis who are unable to achieve an erection (lose the ability to have a "hard-on")

You flaunt the fact that you break the law daily. If you are so flippant about being a law breaker it makes me wonder what other laws you thumb your nose at. Are you a killer? Rapist? Thief?

If you can find a link that ISN'T government propaganda....let me know....the medicinal benefits of MJ far outweight the MINOR effects. Compare the side effects of MJ with ANY prescription pill out there....minor in comparison.

I am VERY REAL. It doesn't matter who smokes it. It is against the law. If they are caught with an illegal substance they should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Would it be ridiculous for a Thief to steal your possessions and brag about breaking the law? If the thief was a doctor does that make him any less of a criminal?

You are the one who needs to get real. Your support of criminal behavior is appalling. Your trying to justify breaking the law is silly.

Last year one of the best players on our football team got caught smoking weed. He got suspended from school 2 weeks which meant he couldn't play since he wasn't legally in school according to the NCHSAA. Because of it we lost the last game of the year and the first round playoff game. That is not all. He was supposed to get a division 1 scholarship to Appalachian or Wake Forest but they had him drug tested and he failed. He is now playing for a Junior College in Arizona because he couldn't get in the colleges he wanted to play for. Even Johnson C. Smith wouldn't give him a football scholarship. That pretty bad for just smoking a couple of blunts.

If it passes and become legal then football player and basketball players can't be suspended for smoking because they won't drug test.
