Money. The government is fine with letting alcohol be legal, because of the taxes they can put on it. Why not do the same wit Marijuana? If Marijuana is illegal, alcohol should be too.

Besides the numerous scientific studies linking marijuana to inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, doing more for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis than any pharmaceutical available with no side effects, and the fact that the FDA approved a drug named "Marinol" that's active ingredient is tetrahydracannabinol (THC) proves the federal government knows it is a useful in medical applications. There is not one documented death in over 5,000 years from a direct use of cannabis. 17,000 people die a year from prescription medication, and over 400,000 people die a year directly from smoking cigarettes, but these are still legal? Aside from the argument marijuana makes you lethargic (so does to many cheeseburgers), the only reason it is illegal is money. Big pharmaceutical companys like Watson and Phizer who lobby our federal law makers have no interest in medical patients having access to a medicine that is better than anything they can make and that can be grown in your backyard. Besides the medical benefits, what's the problem with a hard working law abiding citizen coming home from a hard day at work and smoking a joint to relax?
Another argument for legalization is hemp, the male marijuana plant. In 1896 Rudolph Diesel invented the diesel motor with the idea it would be fueled by vegetable and seed oil, mainly hemp oil. Now, how about this, we legalize marijuana, tax the hell out of it, convert our countries vehicles to diesel motors that run on industrial hemp oil and tell the middle easterners and oil tycoons to screw off? That almost totally eliminates our dependency on foreign oil.
My arguments could go on for days. I am a daily cannabis user and function great in society. I haven't missed a day of work in over 5 years and have never had one accident at work. I do not smoke before work or drive on marijuana either. It's time our ignorant southern ideologies influenced by greedy politicians and ignorant religous leaders change. It's time to wake up beaufort.

Because I feel that weed can be used for any reasons. Here is one (1) reason why, because weed can be use medically and it helps restore a lot conditions that people are dealing with today.

because it doesn't cause the problems that drinking causes. it can help balance the national debt. the state and federal government could make money off it. it would reduce the amount of CDV charges in the United States . think about it who has ever smoked pot, robbed a store, killed anyone, beat up their spouce, all they are worried about is eating, watching tv , and sleeping. trust me i have lived with a drunk and the emotional abuse sucks. pot should be legal then maybe the amount of dui cases will not be so high.

if weed becomes legal, the prisons will be more apt for the criminals and not the smokers. and not to mention the illegal sales market will be easier to monitor by the feds if need be.

Marijuana's effects are not nearly as bad as alcohol, which has been legal for almost the entire US history except during prohibition. Most US taxpayers believe it should be legalized, so why not? IF they did so, and taxed it like they do cigarettes, we could afford proper HEALTH CARE for every US citizen as well as enough food for everyone in this country who is in need.

My husband has had headaches since he was very small. I think he deserves the right to try this since all other meds and operations have given no relief.
