I respectfully oppose anything that changes a persons demeanor whether it be for the better or worse, inhibits their ability, etc. Look at things that are legal already. Tobacco, they use nicotine to hook people into giving up their hard earned money. Caffiene is just as bad for some, i know a few people that will polish off between 6 to 12 cokes a day... I'm not saying its bad, and i'm in no way a holy roller, or socialist. Just think we should look out for our neighbor.

If people would detox their bodies from these things they might not be as many depressed people in this world hoping a doctor can give them a cure in a bottle.......

Marijuana is a hallucinogen. It impairs ones ability to think properly. I do understand that it is legal for medical purposes, but beyond that I see no reason to legalize it. Not to sound plain mean-but the majority of people that believe it should be legalized can't speak proper English and is smoking it themselves.

Legalize it! All studies show that more people die of alcohol related deaths than marijuana. If you can still get drunk then why not get high. There wouldnt be near as many high strung people or people being stressed out.

Mary Jane is not a hallucinogen. While it may make people a little slower than normal, smoking it does not, by any means, make one an idiot. I do occasionally smoke, as one might drink socially. I can read, write, spell, and speak correctly. By the way, the correct verb in the end should be are. As in, can't speak proper English and ARE smoking it themselves. I mean, since you have implied that people who choose to smoke mj are uneducated and ignorant, you should say so properly.

Afroman, while we are all entitled to our opinion, please take into consideration that most of us are adults. We are free to choose for ourselves. Granted, not everyone has great decision making skills, but that is not for us to judge. As with most alcoholics, there is a much deeper problem and the drug, whatever it may be, is self-medication.

Marijuana is safer than cigs. Nobody bans that. Might as well make it legal. . . but the gov. doesn't want to lose all of the money they get from it being illegal.

The drug generally isn't more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation.
Limiting the use of the drug intrudes on personal freedom.
Legalization would mean a lower price; thus, related crimes (like theft) would be reduced.
There are medical benefits such as the those for cancer patients.
Street justice related to drug disputes would be reduced.
It could be a source of additional tax revenues.
Police and court resources would be freed up for more serious crimes.
Drug dealers (including some terrorists) would lose most or all of their business.
The FDA or others could regulate the quality and safety of drugs.
Like sex, alcohol, or cigarettes, marijuana is one of life's little pleasures for some people.
Aside from recreational drug use, Cannabis has several industrial and commercial uses, as over 25,000 products can be made from the crop.
Drug busts often trap young people in a flawed system that turns them into lifelong criminals.

The above statements were taken from a Internet article at http://www.balancedpolitics.org/marijuana_leg... and offers a opposing view.

My reason for it to be legal is because it's fun. Have you ever noticed thru history some of our most talented people come from a time before marijuana was made illegal!

Sometimes instead of pain killers a simple joint can help ease the pain better. Pain killers are so hard on internal organs like the liver
