sure, would save a lot of money, and I don't think it's any worse than beer.

I have seen several members of my family destroyed by addictions, their lives were wrecked by addiction to various substances and it ultimately killed them.

Not only do I not support legalizing Marijuana but I would rather alcohol and tobacco be outlawed too.

I'm an officer with APD.

Unofficially, marijuana on an end-user level is almost completely going to be ignored. Our drug resources are going towards meth, crack, and thanks to mexican gangs in East TN, heroin.

Don't be an idiot and you can enjoy your herb.

That's not to say you can't still be arrested and charged for it. We're just not going to be putting as much effort into stopping Joe Pothead. We want Joe Pothead to sit on his couch and eat doritos. We're going to come down hard on Joe Pothead if he drives high, and we also know the difference between Joe Pothead and Joe Scumbag who happens to have possession. Joe Scumbag's always gonna get a charge.

As for dealers, everything remains ops normal. In fact, we're about to close on a major bust because a dealer's customers kept throwing trash into someone's yard. It all comes back to "don't be an idiot."

Everyone knows that there is no drug problem in Athens TN, at least according to the APD Chief.

Police Chiefs hold a political position. Chiefs sometimes say funny, nonsensical things. That's because who or what got them elected is talking.

Rest assured that rank and file APD are aware and will not let our community be destroyed any further by the current drug problems. The line has been drawn.

The difference between a drunk driver and someone smoking weed is this. A drunk driver comes to a stop sign, blazes thru it without even seeing it. A pothead on the other hand, stops and waits for it to turn green. I'm not an advocate for either, but lets be honest about it and forget all the rumors about pot. Do the research and compare the 2.

A pot user waiting for a 'stop sign' to turn green could be sitting there for awhile...;)(sorry, couldn't resist lol)

Wise words, APD...I wish you guys well in the battle. The drug problem here is ridiculous!

You're absolutely right. Because I and others aren't going to waste time focusing on potheads smoking a plant (if they aren't doing anything else), we must therefore be stoners.

Brilliant. And by brilliant I mean retarded.

You DO realize that Topix is not quite anonymous don't you?

I am sure if the local DA learned of an APD officer condoning drugs use in a public forum they could manage to get a few warrants together for Topix IP logs and ISP customer records.

I'm not so sure they would even waste their time. Besides the guy has a right to his opinion and if he did find someone in possesion of pot he would still have to enforce the law regardless of his personal beliefs. If he is doing his job he cant get in trouble for a personally held opinion on the law. silly!

the only thing this guy has to worry about is the felony he is committing by impersonating a police officer. if he was an officer, he would know that a police chief isn't a political position and they are hired, not voted into office as he stated earlier.

Dear 'fraud':

Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that lead to damage to the optic nerve, the nerve that carries visual information from the eye to the brain.

I think you suffer from this and you smoke medical marijuana for it because you are not only blind you are high.

I do NOT support legalization, that why I voted no, but I do think the laws are getting too strict.

It is a felony in TN to grow ONE plant, back when I was a kid it was a misdemeanor to grow 3 plants.

Fine em and put em on probation, but save the jail cells for hard criminals and real dealers.
