A country has a right to protect it's boarders. If the federal gov won't do it by all means the state should.

The state should do it whether the federal government does it or not. A country has a right to protect its borders and a state has the right, duty and privilege to protect its borders, thereby protecting her citizens. I am glad North Carolina and South Carolina are 2 of the states who are attempting to pass legislation to protect their citizens through tough Arizona-like legislation. I thank state Senator East from Surry County for introducing legislation of that effect and vowing to re-introduce it in January if this present session of legislature does not enact it. Thanks Senator East.

The situation in the Southwestern states is changing and no longer an issue of immigration, legal or illegal, but is fast turning into a fullscale invasion along the southern borders of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. This Tuesday past, June 29 to be exact, 7 shots were fired into the windows of the courthouse of El Paso, Texas. The courthouse is 8/10s of a mile from Mexico. A few days before that a 15 year old Mexican was shot dead on the Mexican side of the river according to the Mexican authorities. There is disagreement on whether the lad was on Mexican or U.S. territory but nonetheless he was throwing rocks at the border guards. One of the candidates for governor in New Mexico and one state senator from Northern Mew Mexico are advocating planting mines on the Mexico-New Mexico border. The 3 southern counties of Arizona are in fullscale invasion by Mexican gangs, drug cartels and illegals coming across. I have been warning people about this since I learned of it in 1963 but no one would believe me it was coming but it is now here.

Local elections in Mexico marred by violence, intimidation

Exit polls show PRI ahead in many of the state races. Some polls fail to open because election workers are afraid to show up. In Chihuahua, four bodies are hung from bridges.

Since last communicating on this thread I have found out there are takeovers of private ranches by the Mexicans in the Laredo area, kidnappings near Laredo and in El Paso, stray shots in El Paso, shots fired into homes and businesses in Laredo and near Fabens, Texas. The police chief and sheriff in El Paso complaining about lack of security funding and equipment. The mayor of Juarez, Mexico lives in El Paso. He says it is too dangerous to live in Juarez. It is illegal immigration in the other 46 states but invasion in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

There is a difference between being an immigrant and an illegal immigrant. There should be info connected to the drivers license database saying if I am a legal U.S. resident. This is not a nazi "papers please" situation, it should be a let me see your license and if it all checks out then have a nice day. People from the Philippines and Vietnam wat 10-15yrs to LEGALLY Immigrate but Mexicans just jump the border and if they are busted then they scream that America is racist and anti immigrant. I am pro-immigration and anti-illegal immigrantion.

AZ immigration law is too broad and clearly steps over the line into racial profiling. Having said that, I do agree there needs to be a clear immigration policy that includes a pathway to citizenship and it needs to be enforced, but not in the way that the State of Arizona has enacted. I understand they are a border state and our borders need to be protected(especially against foreign & domestic threats of terrorism), but not an immigration law that is so absolute it's like living in a "police-state" or under Martial law because you happen to be of Hispanic descent and you look like you might be here illegally! That's the problem I have with this law. So, bottomline is to protect our borders, establish a clear pathway to citizenship, and enforce the current Federal laws on immigration. Stop random profiling and what I believe is a violation of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. No one enjoys it when your rights and freedoms are being violated whether you are natural or naturalized citizen of the U.S.

kewlkirk,
I'm not sure I follow your logic. The US has a clear immigration policy that's not being enforced by the federal government. If they won't enforce the laws and support and defend the US, who's going to do it?

Define "pathway to citizenship", because your post makes it sound like you want this "pathway" for people that have entered the country illegally. There's already a "pathway to citizenship" for people that do it legally, so it sounds like you want something else for those that break the law.

How would you enforce our borders and provide security for the country? Are you going to put the National Guard or regular military on the border? How about a state militia (the one mentioned in the US Constitution). Do you support governmental officials that are trained and tasked with the duty of enforcing immigration laws being allowed and expected to do this job regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or national origin?

The majority of Americans are not opposed to requiring people to carry citizenship documentation or visas. What would be the harm in a police officer asking for proof of citizenship or a visa? They ask for your driver's license and proof of registration and insurance. Nobody seems to throw a hissy-fit about that.

The only point you make clearly is the need to "enforce the current Federal laws on immigration". That's EXACTLY what the AZ law intends to do. So you position is that you would support Federal officers asking people for citizenship or visa documents, but you're opposed to state officials doing the same thing because it's "profiling". What the....?????

What is it about the word "illegal" that people don't understand. We don't owe these illegal aliens a path to citizenship or ANYTHING else.
Did we pay to bring these illegal aliens here?
How did they get here? Why are they here?
The answer to stopping illegal immigration is go after their employers with stiff fines and jail terms. If the illegals can't get a job, they will self-deport and others will stop coming here.
No other country on the face of the earth would ltolerate an invasion of this mabnitude. Do we actually need millions of uninsured illegal alien cheap laborers here when we have a massive unemployment problem. We are paying billions of dollars a year in medical bills for these illegal aliens and their families. These medical bills are mainly being paid to hospitals and doctors with property taxes, but also county and state taxes.
Our huge unemployment problem is made much worse by illegal immigration. Get on your local and state politicians hind end and stay there, until they go after the employers of illegal aliens.
These aliens have not had a criminal background check and many are fleeing the Mexican courts and police.
