The plan will stop the arbitrary increases of premiums for less medical coverage, the cancellation of coverage when you most need it, and with either a public option or "community" type plans, there will be competition for the private insurers which will keep costs down and open up options. There are more issues which need to be addressed but are not in this plan, but we need to at least START on health care reform. Get it done, and modify it as time goes on..... like many other long term policy legistation

I learned a long time ago not the believe what politicians say but vote on what they do. They rarely ever do what they say and government has never given you anything that they had not first taken away from you. This is not about government health care but about federal politicians total behavioral control and regulation over every aspect of the American citizens lives.

Can't trust the Government to do anything right, or at low cost. This is just a giant scheme to unionize all health-care workers.

Medicare is bankrupt. The state is bankrupt. The current plan in Congress is to shift more medicare costs onto the states. This is how they will keep the ten year cost of the program under one Trillion dollars! Insane!

Look at Canada: people are waiting months for treatments to be approved, then, if they're lucky, they can wait more months to have the procedure done. More and more people in Canada are coming to the US to get medical treatment.

There's no getting around the fact that all government run programs around the world ration health care. When health care is "free", or unlimited, there's no incentive for people to take care of themselves or make demands on the system.

However, the government should require everyone to purchase health insurance, and the insurance companies should be prevented from dropping you if you get sick or for having pre-existing conditions. That's a fair bargain which the industry accepts.

Also, people should have the option of purchasing high-deductible plans that are reasonably priced, but have a built-in incentive to stay well. For others, they can purchase the Cadillac plan, but they should pay a Cadillac price.

You can't expect the government scale-up a medicare program to cover everyone in the nation. That system is broken now.

Let's not saddle our children with this government-run albatross that will never deliver on the many prom misses being made.

People: this is going to be hugely expensive and wasteful. Where do you think that money is going to come from? HIGHER TAXES ON EVERYONE!

The democrats are trying to take over 17% of the GDP with this proposal. They can't even manage AMTRAK. Medicare is broke now. And this proposal is supposed to save money? They are fabricating a huge lie.

This is not about better and cheaper health care. It is about government control over people and legal murder of the elderly

I guess that the opinion of the people posting in this thread is that the insurance companies have done a great job with health insurance? I just don't see that, health insurance is horribly expensive and while people complain about how awful it would be to have the government involved in healthcare because you wouldn't be able to see your own doctor, or you would be denied treatment must have different health insurance than I do. I have a very comprehensive and expensive health insurance plan, and I have been told twice in recent years to find a new doctor because they rengotiated a contract with a different physician/hospital group and my doctor wasn't in it. I have also been denied treatment recommended by my doctor. I have a son who can't buy health insurance at any cost because of a 'pre-existing condition' and my cousin's coverage was cancelled when she got breast cancer because they said that she had lied on her application by not mentioning that she had pneumonia 15 years ago. Does any of that make sense to you?

It seems that some people have gone off the deep end with their hate of government and have convinced themselves that any regulation or intervention of health insurance companies will have some kind of ominous result. Have you thought about how we could have probably avoided losing most or all of the equity in our homes, if there had been government oversight into the banking/commodities markets tht would have prohibited them from the little game they played with derivatives, nearly collapsing the economy?

obummers plan is nothing but a huge TAX bill. There are some very simple things that can be done top open up competion among private insurers. This administration is already controlling about a third of the economy...healthcare is another 17%. No to obummer care and socialism.

please share your insight with us..how are you going to get health insurance companies to compete since they are unregulated and we have no choice but to buy insurance from one of a handful of companies- what is your plan? Maybe you think we can just ask them to play fair lol

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Leo

You'll be action-oriented today, Leo. If truth be told, intense physical activity has the ability to soothe you much more than frenzied mental exercise. Invitations to madness are the wrong thing for you, but they are tempting nonetheless. Dig in your heels and do what you know you have to do. When driving this evening, take extra care.
