All Americans should have the same healthcare as members of Congress.

I agree, but it will never happen. Also, where would the money come from? I'm worried about our children as it is.

Do you have any idea how much you're paying right now for all those uninsured & underinsured people who go to the emergency room because they can't afford a primary care doctor?

The US taxpayers give away billions in foreign aide every year. We give billions in tax credits to oil companies. We spend billions on wars in other countries.

I think we can afford to provide healthcare to every American.

Not everyone will be covered under any plan proposed at this point, so there will still be uninsured. Do you really believe the price of asprin at a hospital will go down once we have socialized medicine? I would love it if it were true but it probably isn't likely. Just as wages wouldn't go up if an employer saved money because they no longer provided insurance for their employees, it would go to their bottom line.

Foreign aid is a means of control/influence as a way to avoid war/conflict.

We can't afford anything, we have a..uh..national deficit. I guess we can just borrow or print more..right?

Here's an example of our gov't insurance. A woman who is covered under gov't ins goes to the dentist complaining of a toothache and to get a cleaning. They say she needs a root canal of which the cost in not covered under the gov't plan. But, they could pull it out, that is covered (who wants to walk around toothless, not me). Of course, this woman doesn't want her tooth gone, so she goes to another dentist and gets a second opinion. Second dentist does not take gov't insurance, but woman is in pain and gets tooth looked at. Turns out, 1st dentist did a horrible job cleaning woman's teeth and she indeed doesn't need a root canal just a good cleaning and a small filling. Is this the type of insurance that you really want. It turns people into numbers. Gets 'em in and out. I do understand what you are saying that those without insurance cost those with insurance to pay more for that insurance. This is the same for car insurance. But, I don't like the idea of gov't telling me what a doctor can do to help me when I'm sick. What if it isn't a tooth, but an individual with cancer. Maybe I'm cynical?

Obviously you don't realize private insurers do EXACTLY the same thing. Some things they cover at 100%, some at 50%, some at 25%, and some things aren't covered at all. Why is it any different when it's the federal govt doing it as opposed to an private insurance company??

Why is it all the old people who are on Medicare (a govt run program) are against others having the option of a govt run program?? Seems a bit hypocritical to me.

Then "obviously" you missed the point that a root canal is really not a procedure that belongs in your explaination of "some things aren't covered at all". Of course some things are covered and some are not. Usually, at least in my experiences and maybe you could enlighten me if my prior experiences are not the norm... prior to enrollment, you have a few options to choose from. Do you think there will be choices in a gov't run plan?

And nobody is talking about forcing people to enroll in the public option- hence the term "OPTION".

As for choices within a govt run plan, there are choices right now within Medicare. I'm retired military and have all the choice I want with my healthcare.

If you think any kind of govt run healthcare is so bad, then you must be in favor of getting rid of Medicare. Good luck getting comparable health insurance on your own from the private health insurers.

Actually, SOME people have been talking about how a gov't run program could and all likely would force some people into gov't insurance by employers no longer offering insurance at work and private insurers being unable to compete with gov't insurance. I am not against medicare. But medicare and insurance for all are a little different. Medicare is received by those who are close to or are retired, so their insurance coverage may be ending. Listen, I'm not totally against a form of gov't healthcare, but I believe TRUE reform is necessary first in order to cut cost and create MUCH more competition within the private sector. This should be the first step in solving our country's insurance problems.
