The government runs enough crap in this country that they have no business being involved in. Why give them something else to screw up.

Universal healthcare is a fine institution that is working in manhy other countries, including England and Canada. If we can't make the leap towards a more fair, humane, and successful system such as a universal healthcare system, we can at leats take steps towards it, and following Obama's proposal is an apporpriate way to do so.
