THE GOVERNMENT HAS THE OBLIGATION TO PROTECT AMERICANS FROM ILLS FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC..
A SICK AND STUPID AMERICA WILL BE A REPEAT OF THE BUSH YEARS WITH A HINT OF PALIN--WE WILL BE DESTORYED..
WE HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO EDUCATE OUR PEOPLE AND KEEP THEM HEALTHY---OUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON IT..
PERSONALLY--I WOULD HAVE SUGGESTED GIVING FREE EDUCATION FIRST--GET RID IF MEDICAID AND MEDICARE--THEN MOST OF THE TEABAGGERS WOULD ALL DIE OFF AND A NEW EDUCATED AMERICA WOULD ARISE AND WOULD THEN---OFFER NATIONAL HEALTH CARE!

assuming that healthcare were a right....
1) all rights FIRST belong to the individual (that is THE premise of being an American...NObody or NOthing (i.e., King, Pres nor gpv't) gives a person the right to free speech, pursuit of happiness, choice of religion, etc...we, the people, are born with those rights)
2) the Constitution is the document by which we, the people...the individual persons, collectively...agreed to cede certain, specific rights, OUR unalienable rights by birth, to a LIMITED central gov't, for the common good (i.e., national defense, international treaty making, interstate commerce, the minting of money)
3) no where, that is N-O WHERE, in the Constitution do the people cede power to the central gov't as regards education, welfare, drugs and/or their usage, procreation, marriage OR healthcare
4) the Tenth Amend (if memory serve me right) simply states that any and all rights NOT ceded to the central gov't, then...when it was originally written and adopted...or ever after (unless the people APPROVE and ADD such an amendment...which we have NOT!), reside (that means 'belongs to', ok?) either the States (if the people cede them such additional rights in THEIR State constitutions) OR the people (us, in other words)
5) we...u and I and he and she...have the right to secure our own healthcare OR not...to attend college OR not...to marry OR not.
now, do you get it? if u or anybody else wants to give control...more control...over your lives, fine. write an amendment, convince a majority of ur fellow citizens/states, vote and pass said amendment and then that too shall become the Law of the Land (as per the Constitution). until then, wish in one hand and u know what in the other and see which gets filled first (let me add, legally, of course, which we have moved a long, long way from during the last 90-100 yrs to our peril).
less is better
PS before one starts calling names, etc one shud educate themselves or is the truth and history too much to understand?

For the record, nobody as of yet within the govt, has proposed tackling the healthcare issues, which are mainly the exhorbitant costs. A true govt run healthcare would mean a take-over of all medical facilities, which isn't possible. Strict price regulation is possible, but has not been attempted due to heavy lobbying. The only discussion of late is about the insurance companies, who are just the avenue for payment, thus, a sidestepping of the issue..

the gov't cares as much about the cost as they do about everybody actually getting coverage.
question: have u noticed that most if not all proposed bills have options requiring the payment to the gov't of penalties/taxes for NOT purchasing health ins? they don't say u WILL be covered and then billed...just that u will pay something to someone...providing of course u have a job. the chroniclely unemployed (the IWW's...I Won't Work) still get a free ride...which IS why healthcare costs so much to those able to pay now (somebody has to cover those costs).
no, what the gov't needs is our private ins premium monies to pay for Medicare and Medicaid cause they 're running out of ways to raise revenue/taxes. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

The entire healthcare debate is comical. Like apples and oranges. One one hand we have charges for medical services running around 300+% over actual costs, while insurance companies, who are trying to make a profit, are raising premiums to cover the charges. On the other hand, we have the govt, ignoring the issue (charges) and addressing the premiums. The govt's published theory is that the premiums will go down if everyone is covered. In theory, yes, they could drop a bit, but most customers wouldn't even notice any reduction. The actual charges (costs) of the medical service will be left alone. Which is what is so comical, if we address the charges (costs), the insurance premiums would drastically go down for all.

comical, yes, but in a VERY scary way...like laughing in the face of death. we ARE living thru a very historical period and I don't mean the election/admin of the first black Amer president.
we are repeating at least two historical events: the fall of the Roman Empire (bread and circuses) and the rise of National Socialism in post-WWI Germany...there are too many similarities to be totally ignored. a third event which may be repeated because of the other two would be our own Civil War (States' rights vs. a tyrantical Cen gov't). the ironic part of that scenario is the first was (partly) to end slavery and the next will be to PREVENT slavery (i.e., the 'masses' doing the bidding of the 'Elitists').
THOSE THAT WILL NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT.

Less govt regulation is almost always better if for no other reason than saving tax dollars. Price gouging, criminal fraud, deception and monopolization best describe our health system today. Not independent, but rather a consortium of high rollers from pharmaceutical companies, to hospitals bent on that quick profit at the expense of reduced services. A good analogy would be if I were to install furnaces this winter (my biz) and charge everyone $30k per furnace instead of the normal $1.5k The key to this of course, is getting my competition do go along with the price increase. If this plan were successful, people would be demanding action and charging me with gouging the customers. If you were my customer, you know you would be furious!!

My parent's taught me that if you can't afford something, you don't buy it. France went bankrupt on socialized medicine. Why do this to ourselves?

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Libra

If you live with other people you have to resign yourself to the fact that you all want to do different things today. The more you urge togetherness, the more everyone will be determined under tonight's Full Moon to do their own thing even if it creates problems. Try to play this down as much as possible because it's also a lunar eclipse and getting angry won't solve anything; it may even make the situation worse. Maybe this is a chance for you to do what you want for a change, too? Anyway, enjoy yourself tonight, Libra because you deserve it!
