2 kids, single Mom, middle class. No insurance. Make too much for gov assistance but not enough to afford a private policy.

Trying to buy health insurance on your own and have gallstones? You'll automatically be denied coverage. Rheumatoid arthritis? Automatic denial. Severe acne? Probably denied. Do you take metformin, a popular drug for diabetes? Denied. Use the anti-clotting drug Plavix or Seroquel, prescribed for anti-psychotic or sleep problems? Forget about it.

What's more, you can discover that if you lie to an insurer about your medical history and drug use, you will be rejected because data-mining companies sell information to insurers about your health, including detailed usage of prescription drugs.

These issues are moving to the forefront as the Obama administration and Congress gear up for discussions about how to reform the healthcare system so that Americans won't be rejected for insurance.

It's especially timely because growing numbers are looking for individual health insurance after losing their jobs. On top of that, small businesses, which make up the bulk of South Florida's economy, are frequently finding health policies too expensive and are dropping coverage, sending even more people shopping for insurance.

The problem is, material available on the Web shows that people who have specific illnesses or use certain drugs can't buy coverage.

''This is absolutely the standard way of doing business,'' said Santiago Leon, a health insurance broker in Miami. Being denied for preexisting conditions is well known, but when a person sees the usually confidential list of automatic denials for himself, "that's a eureka moment. That shows you how harsh the system is.''

The bills are written in legalese and can only be understood by lawyers. This is not a new concept, despite what right wingnut republicans would have you believe.

The question is, how can you support the status quo, when our life expectancy is lower, our infant mortality is higher, our costs are double what other pay for better results. You can be denied for lack of money, for known pre-existing conditions or for having some unknown inconsequential condition.

Everyone deserves to have healthcare and not have to worry about whether they can afford to live or die.

Take your own advice, especially about the G.E.D. I've got healthcare numbnuts and I'm not asking for a damn thing. There's plenty of people who work 2 jobs and can't afford healthcare genius. You should learn a bit about the subject you're trying to talk about before making such a fool of yourself.

Well pardon me mam, I sure didn't mean for you to get your panties in a twist and I sure hope I didn't hurt your wittle fweelings. But when insult someone's intelligence and you offer idiotic and inane comments as you did, you should not be surprised when it evokes a passionate response.

Really? How does he suck? What has he done to give you that impression? Be specific. With legislation and concrete examples. Otherwise, you sound like a raving radical right lunatic.

"Man up"? You mean like Cheney did when he put only HIS corporation on the welfare dole for Iraq? And never had to pay back what he stole?

You mean like the banks had to "man up" and keep their business afloat? Oh, wait, they got a big huge welfare check, threw parties and gave gazillions to those upper uppies.

You mean like AIG? Nope...no "men" there.

Since people, NOT corporations, pay taxes, when do WE get to use OUR taxes to take of US? Or are you one of those republican made born agains who believes God only loves the rich?

Careful "Khahlil", you'll overload these pea brains....you can't ask them direct questions like that! Fixed Noise may not have covered that to give them their opinions yet...they have to follow the script you know!

I have come to a conclusion. This is not my opinion or anyone elses opinion. This is a fact.

Those who do have employer sponsered health care do not want a national health care for all. Those who do not have any employer sponsered health care do indeed want a national health care for all.

What this tells me is we still have the ol "I got mine and to hell with every one else" attitude is still alive and well.

Yes and if you do not buy the guberments health care you will be required to pay a $250,000 fine or spend 10 years in prison. Yes that is the exact wording in the proposal
