I lost my job in Dec/08 & my husband is self-employed; so unless healthcare reform/public option is passed, we cannot afford the high cost of health insurance!

Sarah, This health care reform is not 'Free'. have a look:

What most people don't know about "manditory" health insurance, AKA Obama's health care plan is this: Manditory means by law you must purchase health insurance. Anyone who doesn't have insurance, will have to purchase it by law. Say hello to a new monthly bill that will be about $250 for singles, about $450 for family of 4.

Check out what happened in Massachusetts with their "manditory health" plan.

Below is quoted directly, google a portion and see for yourself.

The individual mandate is a requirement that all Massachusetts residents over the age of 18, for whom available health insurance is affordable, obtain and maintain health insurance that meets minimum coverage requirements beginning July 1, 2007.

Individuals who cannot show proof of health insurance coverage by Dec. 31, 2007, will lose their personal income tax exemption when filing their 2007 income taxes. The 2006 personal exemption is $3,850 for an individual, which translates into a tax savings of approximately $204 for an individual (5.3 percent of $3,850).

Failure to meet the requirement in 2008 will result in a fine for each month the individual does not have coverage.

Then get an education and a better job that will give you health insurance. Why should I pay for you and your family? I have my own problems to worry about.....

Under Obamas plan, you will still pay that. You will just be required by law now, or pay a fine. proboly lose tax exeptions also. Just like Massechettets.

What most people don't know about "manditory" health insurance, just a small detail of Obama's health care plan is this:

Manditory means by law you must purchase health insurance. Obama plans to set up an exchange where person can shop for a plan that suits them. Anyone who doesn't have insurance will be required by law to purchase it.

Qualified low income persons or families can get Gov't help to pay thier premiums.

This is how Massachusetts set up their "manditory health" plan.

Also, failure to meet the requirement in 2008 will result in a fine for each month the individual does not have coverage.
