This bill is to be voted on and passed by the Senate on July 27, 2012. The massacre in Colorado will be used to carry this bill to passage. How can an unemployed person spend over $30,000 on all the ammo, guns, protection gear and uniform that he had on and in his apartment? Just seems like it all was mighty timely. All the lives lost, and people injured to make a point. NEVER LET A CRISIS PASS, another opportunity to take away more of our freedom. Where did all the funds come from, that paid for this? Get ready, it's just started!

He spent 8 grand from what I read. Obama promised no new gun legislation during his his candidacy saying he only wished to enforce the laws current on book more effectively. Hell the ATF can't keep track of their assault weapons. They need structure on their on behalf before they preach what they think is right for me.

Cell phones cause more "accidental deaths" in this county in a month than hand guns cause in a year.

That is not opinion. That is cold hard fact. Check out the 2010 accidental death consensus for the numbers.

Guns do not kill people. Idiotic irresponsible people who shouldn't own guns kill people. Stomping all over Americans civil liberties won't solve the problem.

Registered gun owners who's weapons "accidentally" kill people should be punished to the farthest extent of the law.

The same goes for people who cause car accidents because they're talking on their cell phones or texting. That's not an accident. It's irresponsible and it's dangerous. If you're kids are using cell phones in their cars and cause the death of someone, you as a parent should receive the same hard punishment as any gun owner who's gun "accidentally" killed someone.

They don't.

The only people who actually own semi automatic rifles are rednecks who think it's awesome that they can obliterate a deer, conspiracy theorists who think the government is going to steal their children in the night for alien probe testing and the handful of questionably mental deficient people who think that the zombie apocalypse is nigh.

Just because I believe that Americans have a right to have a bear arms doesn't mean I believe that they should a) own any sort of gun they wish or b) that everyone should be equally capable of owning guns.

Not all registered gun owners are sane, responsible or intelligent but since when is that grounds to take away civil liberties?

I don't see the government forcing all women to have a tubal litigation because a percentage of the women in this country believe that having 5 or 6 abortions is okay.

Our gun laws need to be seriously thought out and revamped but taking away the rights of all Americans because a percentage of gun owners are morons isn't the answer no more than forcing an entire nation of women to get their tubes tied after they give birth solves the problem of women and abortion.

I don't like guns. I don't own a gun. I've never fired a weapon.

I do, however, fully support the right of Americans to bear arms.

Why do people need a car that goes more than 35 MPH?

L_E_,
I own several firearms that were once considered "assault weapons" under the 1994 ban. Which group of people would I be lumped in with?

I guarantee that most people who object to "assault weapons" don't even know what a real assault weapon is. They just regurgitate what the media tells them.

I am by no means an expert on guns or the different types of guns but as a ex military wife, I do have a fair grasp of the concept.

It is my understand that in 1994 the term assault weapon was expanded to include any semi-automatic weapon that could be accessorized with the benefits of a fully-automatic weapon. These weapons ranged from pistols to grenade launchers.

It is also my understanding that about 10 years ago (I may be wrong about the date on that) the sunset laws on these bans expired and have not been renewed.

The problem with the law is that there is absolutely no reason why any civilian American could possibly have any need something like a grenade launcher in civilian life.

As I said, being a former military wife gives me a rather unique perspective on the subject. I also know that some people like to collect things - guns and other various weaponry being something that military or former military personnel like to collect.

Just because I know this, doesn't mean I agree that certain weapons should be legal for civilians to have.

As for the "category" that you belong to, I don't know you so I have no way of knowing that. You could be military, or former, you may even be member of law enforcement for all I know. You may simply be a collector of firearms with a healthy knowledge and respect for such things. For all I know, you might be one of those rednecks who just like to blow up deer, or awaiting the zombie apocalypse.

In the larger scope of things, none of those things are the least bit valid because the fact remains - not everyone should be allowed to own a gun. At the same time, the government wants to keep EVERYONE from owning guns.

The problem isn't the guns. The problem is that the guns are being legally issued to morons who don't know how to be responsible with guns.

Personally, I don't think private citizens have any need to own grenade launchers, or any other weapon of military grade but my personal opinion has absolutely no bearing on the subject. What I really care about is the fact that the government is using a small handful of lunatics, fanatics and people of questionable mental states to justify stomping on another of our dwindling civil liberties.
