So what do you propose a psychiatric evaluation? And then what mental illnesses are excluded? Borderline Personality Disorder? Narcissism? Bipolar? What about Anorexia? or Anti Social Personality Disorder? Where do we draw the line?

It's a slippery slope for discrimination, that's all I'm saying.

Oh, and psych evals are a hard science. That's why the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual will put out its new Fifth edition early in 2013 (DSM5) with new diagnostic categories. Removing old ones. Inserting new ones. And none have really been tested for validity. Reliability is on the research. And it is a group of committees with their own political axes to grind and territory to protect.

A great idea.

the thing is mental cases as you call them will get access to guns no matter the laws, where as the law abiding citizen gets screwed with the trouble of making more requirements for the guns, in the end.....law abiding citizan gets 1 gun in the same amount of time the mental cases illegaly get 10.

Your argument holds a little water but remember we as a society as well as the legal community CANNOT force a person on meds to take them. That's already been tried in the courts. So if one can't be forced to, HTH are we going to keep the mentally ill from (1) being identified,(2) IDd to whom and when given privacy laws, and (3) keeping guns out of their hands? Is the cure worse than the cause or visa versa?

My point is that changes can be made to protect society but other issues must be reformed first.

Exactly, and those are the same arguments being used in part to keep those on meds from being forced to take them. Its a different issue but they have some very long parallels.

True dat. As laws are tightened, only the law abiding citizens find them selves further inconvenienced, not the criminals or mentally ill faction.

myth would be that it was an upper level conspiracy and bizarro backwards plot by the gubment to take yer guns instead of a just major FU by LEOs

Good thinking. A FU? No trace on guns. Did not inform the Mexican authorities of what they were doing? Asked FFL holders to "break the law". More like a FUBAR. Did not just involve one person. Not the first time this style of operation was used.

And to you it is "JUST a major FU by LEOS. I guess that is your response to a cop shooting if not justified. Just a major FU. Tell that to the dead in Mexico and the Border Agent. Oopsies. We must have FU. FUBAR.

lying - that is not what I said. It is is a FU and a major one by the LEOs not a broad government conspiracy.

Sorry, i was responding to "the wrote" not you. It was planned. Not a FU. Planned does not equal a conspiracy. You trying to deflect? Hundreds murdered and that is the FU?

Here's my take on the matter. Initially, I don't think it was a grand conspiracy....a disasterous idea, yes. I do, however, believe there was/is a major cover up. I was reading today about Obama and Biden having, personally, never being told about requests for increased security at the Lybian embassy. Basically, the excuse is, other people handle such matters. Just like Fast and Furious, it disturbs me greatly that the one, or two, that are supposedlly "in charge" of our country, aren't "made aware" of some very serious issues. A puppet show anyone?

They let the guns walk. They wanted to show how the cartels were buying from NA. They knew what they were doing. There was an operation before. It was not a new blueprint. In the earlier operation all guns were tagged and the Mexican government was notified. Look it up. This was not a mistake. Look at how throwing out the "conspiracy" thing into the mix gets everyone into the deflection mode. No conspiracy. It was planned. Would have continued until the whistleblowers stepped in. Call it cover-up and I will bite.
