I have a right guaranteed by the constitution to own handguns and I have a permit to carry one. I have a right to defend myself against deadly force used by criminals. The Police cant protect me, its my responsibility.

Just look at what happened in New Orleans in a disaster the police will not be there.

In Memphis you need to be able to protect yourself. The Police do the best they can, but they can't be everywhere all the time. I will protect and defend my Family and myself. If we ban guns, then only criminals will have them. They arn't going to observe a handgun ban, so don't inforce one on law abiding citizens. If a criminal has an idea that the person he/she is thinking of doing harm to is armed, he/she may think twice. At least you would have a chance if armed yourself.

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive."
--Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787).

I wouldn't support a ban on the 1st, 4th, 5th, 10th, 13th, 14th, 19th, and most other Constitutional amendments either. But that's just me.

Gun ownership is protected by the Bill of Rights. If you take away even ONE Right, you show that any of the others may be removed by another politician later on.
The ban would only affect law abiding people who would turn theirs in to avoid legal troubles.Criminals would just lay low and then after the announcements that the grace period was up,start preying on those who turned theirs in with great impunity. They wouldn't have to worry about some homeowner shooting them as they broke in or a woman shooting them before they coudl rape her.

careful... The Constitution does not grant you the right to keep and
bear arms. It simply _reaffirms_ your God-given
right to do so.

I have a right to defend myself. If we ban guns then we must ban knives, fists, chairs, baseball bats, ect... People kill people. I've had a gun for years and I have never shot anyone. Why deny me the right to self defence. Banning handguns or any other gun is a liberal attempt to pave the way for a govermental dominance of its citizens. Banning guns would encourage infiltration of this country by foreign terrorist by the droves. Want to save lives? Ban alchohol.

i totally agree with all that was said. but they are going to try to take our guns from us. it happened in canada, and its own the way here, we all must make a stand for the right to bears arms, cause i feel like everyone is thinking you are NOT GOING TO TAKE MY WEAPONS.

You'd better be working by writing your congresscritters to let them know that you don't want any more infringements upon our Right to keep and bear arms.Otherwise, instead of having to worry if the next refrendum to improve your kids' schools will pass,we'll be actually fighting to keep our firearms because someone decided that American citizens were untrustworthy enough to be "allowed" to own their own firearms.
Fight soft at the ballot box now or hard later against people whol would shoot you if they could. It's your choice.I'd rather do the easy one myself.

We have rights yet in this country and one of them the right to bear arms.
We need to protect our homes and families because there may come time when it will be necessary.
The crooks will and always get guns illegally.
Look at the crime rates here and the murders.
If push comes to shove I would shoot anyone endangering my home or family.

To own or not own anything is a decision to
be made by the individual and as long as the
item is used in a legal manner it is not the
right of anyone else to decide whether that
person can on cannot own the item. It allboils down to intent.
