Excellent post. My girlfriend hadn't touched a gun in 40 years before she met me, but I've taken her from hitting a 2'x2' target at 25' with a pellet rifle to cutting the 10-ring at 100 yards with the youth-model Remington .243 I got her for her birthday. Now she's ready and eager to go deer hunting at age 50. How's that for progress?

If you ban handguns, then only the criminals will carry guns.

I'm not saying people should be allowed to carry guns on planes, but If we were exercising our RIGHTS to bear arms on 9-11, such as a slapjack, knife, mace or even a stungun, is there anyone who believes those fools with box cutters would have been able to accomplish what they did? Police don't prevent crimes, they respond to crimes.

Crime prevention is nearly a lost art- now it;s crime protection and lawyers getting criminals off on technicalities. Disgusting twists of our laws used to free criminals. Even illegals.

I believe in the second amemdment, Everyone can legally own a gun, but it would help, if we knew where they were at.

Also I would become a criminal too because they can have my gun when they pry it from my cold, lifeless, dead hands. You have yuppy liberals that think everybody doesn't need guns because of a few bad apples in the bunch. I am a very proud life member of the NRA and always will be!

We have guns to protect our self and our family. We are loosing rights as we know it. Land of the free america? We pay taxes so people who have 15 kids can feed there family while they sit on a** and collect money. If you give your kid money every day will he get a job? I know I wouldn't. This is what the government is doing. Except they have no money the debt has doubled. Taking from the rich. They got rich by working. America get off the couch and do something.

Gun control is about control, not guns. Efforts SHOULD be about crime reduction, but they aren't.

In the end, felons are going to ignore such prohibitions, leaving upstanding people the ones disarmed. Perhaps that is what our elected staff desire: a disarmed citizenry. Ya think??

If you rely on others to provide you with protection you are dependent on their capability to protect you or their willingness to do so.
I am a gay man and I've lived through times in which those of authority have been the abusers. So I prefer to provide for my own safety.

It is the mental and emotional state of the person firing the gun that hurt and kill othes. We need lessons on morals taught in our society. Note I did not say schools because it depends on the persons view of morals that affect the teaching. We have gone down a very slippery slope driven by leaders out of control looking out for number one and doing anything to get there. TV, movies, and video games are so violent, degrading, and disconnect adults and children from reality. What happened to positive reinforcement in today's world. Conquenses for crimes need to have stiffer punishments. Criminals should not be treated like they earned a reward for good behavior. Crime is crime and should be treated as such. If people knew you could and would protect yourself, be it by gun or other means, they would be less likely to want to bite the bullet and suffer the consequenses. People don't like pain. They need to think twice, get off drugs, quit criminal activities, hurting others and get a life in the real world. The best morals start with the 10 commandments.

The only people that a handgun ban would effect is the law abiding gun owners, Criminals break the law, that's what they DO. I would not recommend that anyone try and take my guns, that would be a mistake.

I think I'll keep mine- just bought a LH Savage in .17HMR. It's a youth Model but it fit's me very well. Using a few files to reshape the stock- a lot of fun. It sit's next to my TC Encore in 7-08. When you're good, you only need one shot.
