The United States experiences epidemic levels of gun violence, claiming over 30,000 lives annually, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For every person who dies from a gunshot wound, two others are wounded. Every year, more than 100,000 Americans are victims of gun violence. In addition to those who are killed or injured, there are countless others whose lives are forever changed by the deaths of and injuries to their loved ones.
Gun violence touches every segment of our society. It increases the probability of deaths in incidents of domestic violence, raises the likelihood of fatalities by those who intend to injure others and among those who attempt suicide, places children and young people at special risk, and disproportionately affects communities of color.
Mass shooting tragedies like the school shootings at Virginia Tech in April 2007 and Northern Illinois University in February 2008 or the 1993 office shooting in San Francisco that led to the formation of Legal Community Against Violence receive significant media attention. However, gun deaths and injuries in the U.S. usually occur quietly, without national press coverage, every day. More than half a million firearms are stolen each year in the United States and more than half of stolen firearms are handguns.

At least 1/3 of which are sucides.
They don't tell you how many people were shot while engaged in crime.

Which happens no matter how their loved ones are killed.

Hmm, no cites. And Virginia Tech like shootings are extremely rare.

Then there's this pesky fact.

There are approximately two million defensive gun uses (DGU's) per year by law abiding citizens. That was one of the findings in a national survey conducted by Gary Kleck, a Florida State University criminologist in 1993. Prior to Dr. Kleck's survey, thirteen other surveys indicated a range of between 800,000 to 2.5 million DGU's annually.

Birth is the leading cause of (eventual) death. 100% of those born will die. How is the big question.
F.Y.I. "P" the A.K.47 & its variants are responsible for more deaths than any other firearm on Earth. A weapon is not responsible for those deaths, each and every time a human pulled the trigger.

Time is the best teacher; unfortunately it kills all its students.

TULSA, Okla.(AP) The explanation for a shooting rampage that terrorized Tulsa's black neighborhood and left three people dead may lie in a killing that took place more than two years ago.
Carl England, whose son is accused in the weekend shooting spree, was fatally shot in 2010 by a man who had threatened his daughter and tried to kick in the door of her home.
The man was black, and police say England's son may have been seeking vengeance when he and his roommate shot five black people last week.
Police documents given to the Associated Press said the two suspects have both confessed. According to a police statement, 19-year-old Jake England admitted shooting three people and 32-year-old Alvin Watts confessed to shooting two.
Also Monday, the two suspects appeared in court to have their bond set at $9.16 million apiece. Authorities have said they expect to charge the pair with three counts of first-degree murder and other crimes.
Family and friends say Carl England's death sent his son into a downward spiral. On Thursday, Jake England apparently wrote a Facebook post marking the second anniversary of his father's death and lamented that "it's hard not to go off."
Back in 2010, Carl England had responded to his daughter's call for help and with her boyfriend tracked down the man who tried to break in. A fight broke out, and the man took out a gun and fired at England.
The man who pulled the trigger, Pernell Jefferson, was not charged with homicide because an investigation determined he acted in self-defense.
Jefferson was charged with attempted burglary and a weapons violation and had his probation revoked in an unrelated weapons case for which he is serving a six-year sentence. He is scheduled to be tried in May on the burglary charge.
According to an affidavit, Jefferson tried to kick in the door of the apartment England's daughter shared with her boyfriend after the boyfriend hit him with a baseball bat during an earlier confrontation at the couple's home.
When Carl England and the boyfriend found Jefferson, Jefferson came at England, who hit Jefferson with a stick. Jefferson fell to the ground, pulled out a handgun and fatally shot the elder England.
Jefferson fled but was arrested after seeking treatment for his injuries at a hospital.
Watts' brother, Gene, told the Tulsa World that Watts moved in with England soon after his father died to help him rebuild his life and deal with his anger, which seemed to be racially focused.
"I've never known my brother to be no racist or anything like that," Gene Watts said. "I know he was going through a little bit of depression problems, but other than that, he's got in little scuffles before, but he's never went off and done this."

Try to get in touch with constituents, reality, the 20th century.

A Lake County judge Monday ordered three men to stand trial on murder and attempted murder charges in the shotgun shooting death of 4-year-old Skyler Rapp and the wounding of five other people June 18 at a party in Clearlake.
4-year-old Skyler Rapp, was the only one killed among six people shot in an attack sparked over a mysterious personal dispute that some say began with a misstep on a new athletic shoe.

Luckily our illustrious new DA's ineptness didn't let these killers get off on a technicality.

More than half a million firearms are stolen each year in the United States and more than half of stolen firearms are handguns.

And those "Gun Free Zones" around schools all but guarantee maximum carnage.
So that's when the Brady Campaign predictably gets up and dances in the blood of the victims.

"An expert on crime gun patterns, ATF agent Jay Wachtel says that most guns used in crimes are not stolen out of private gun owners' homes and cars. "Stolen guns account for only about 10% to 15% of guns used in crimes," Wachtel said. "

"The report by the Americans for Gun Safety Foundation says nearly 1.7 million firearms were reported to police as stolen from January 1993 through August 2002. The number of guns stolen per year has declined, from 221,322 reported in 1993 to 138,035 in 2001, the report says"

Hmmm, that doesn't square with..."More than half a million firearms are stolen each year in the United States....."

Provocateur, just a challenge. Why don't you put a sign in your yard that states "This house is a gun free zone".
If you lead the way perhaps you will start a trend. Keep me posted, K?
