The only gun control should be as stated that you are able to hit what you are aiming at!!!!!!!!!!

No I have a carry permit. I think all good people should have one. People wont admit it but they feel safety knowing the good guys have guns to protect everyone.

Permit means permission. Why do I need permission to protect myself or loved ones? So just who is the good guys that have the power to grant me permission or deny me permission to defend myself or loved ones? Do they have some special power to see who is going to use a gun for evil? Suppose these "good guys" who granted you permission to carry decide to revoke that permission? Will you still agree they know whats best for you? Do you feel good knowing someone else has the power to deny you the right to defend yourself? Do you need permission for free speech, or religion? Did you get a permit before voicing your opinion on here? Aren't you glad you don't have too?

I support owning handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc. I own 5 guns, including a .357 revolver, myself. However, I think that something needs to be done about fully automatic and semi-automatic assault weapons. They are tons of fun to shoot, but it is just too easy for the wackos to get them. They shouldn't be banned, but there needs to be a way to keep them out of the wrong hands.

Really? How are they any easier to get than shotguns and revolvers?
How many crimes are committed with full autos?
Do you realize that about half of all hunting rifles are semi-autos?

The same way the War on Drugs and its laws has worked?

Hey, just saying, that we as gun owners have to face the reality that too many people who shouldn't have these weapons are getting their hands on these weapons. Most of the assault weapons going to the Mexican Drug cartels are smuggled across the border from the US as those weapons are illegal to sell in Mexico. The ATF debacle last year didn't help things any either. There has to be a way to stop it. Another good example is a kid I knew growing up. He used to shoot his AK-47 across the road just to antagonize the old lady that lived next door. Imagine a kid not throwing stones, hitting a mailbox with eggs, knocking on a door and running, or peeling wheels, but instead, using a weapon designed to go to war to antagonize an old lady. That's safe. That is the type of person whose hands I don't want to see wrapped around the stock of a .22 rifle, let alone an assault weapon. It is at least responsible to talk about it.

And yes, I do realize that many hunting rifles are semi-auto, but most of them aren't assault rifles as in AK-47 or AR-15, most of them have a limited capacity, and are designed as hunting rifles. Also, I realize that the war on drugs doesn't work, I wouldn't be opposed to tossing it to the side and legalizing most drugs. If you want to smoke drain cleaner, go for it.

What does that have to do with our rights?

So what did the police say to you every time you called them when he was doing that?

So how is that diffeent than a semi- AR-15 or AK-47? What is it in their inherent design that renders them only good for hunting?
Full autos have been legal for years but stories of shoot 'em up with those are extremely rare.

And yet you're for more hoops for the law abiding gun onwer to jump through because a statistically small set of the population misues them.

Do you even know what an assault rifle is?

A semi-automatic "hunting rifle", at least the ones that I have been exposed to, are designed to hold a limited capacity of rounds, where as assault rifles are capable of cycling as many rounds as the detachable magazine holds. As for calling the police, I was I believe 14 at the time, and as a kid, I thought it was up to adults to take care of the situation. And the neighbor did call the police anyways the way I understood, they did nothing. But, you have to remember that in this area, it once took them 11 hours to respond to a silent panic alarm that my neighbor accidentally set off in her home. And to me an assault rifle is a weapon meant to to arm large groups of ground troops, semi-auto or automatic, and to be used out to I believe 400 meters. They are meant for again, military use, meant to take tons of abuse, meant to work in sand, mud, heat, freezing cold, etc. No, I'm not one of those dim-wits that thinks a 12ga shotgun or a Winchester model 70 is an assault rifle.

I'm not for making more hoops to jump through, I'm just saying that we as gun owners should be discussing ways that we can help prevent these weapons from falling into the wrong hands. I'm not trying to threaten the second amendment or take away anyones rights. I've just seen statistics that say up to 87 percent of guns seized and submitted for tracking to the ATF are found to come from America. They believe that this is because of loopholes that allow private sales in some circumstances without a background check. Would a simple background check on the spot prevent all of this, NO!, but would it prevent some or a good bit, YES! Is it wrong to ask that we discuss ways that could reduce or prevent this. I have to admit, the example of the person I mentioned that I knew growing up would be hard to prevent, but the trafficking of guns to Mexico from America is a big deal and worth discussing. They are being used to murder thousands of innocent people.

I mean, I am all for legalizing marijuana, but would it be wrong of me to suggest that we discuss ways to help prevent kids from getting their hands on it if is legalized? What about alcohol, is it wrong to discuss ways to keep it away from kids as much as possible? Or Tobaccco? No, it is simply saying it is completely legal to have, yet it is good to do things to help keep it out of the wrong hands that's all. I think it is responsible. I won't comment on it any more though.

I'm all for banning semi autos....
Did you know that they are illegal to hunt with in Pennsylvania?
You don't need them to hunt with. Last time I looked the deer are not shooting back.
Constitutional rights?
Let's be real here... The creators of the Constitution could not have imagined where the old flintlock was headed... I say let's give the police the edge, let them be the only ones with semi and full auto weapons. I hunt and I just don't need them.
