I'm sorry I meant NOT a victim of your own ideals. Sincerely. Good Luck.

Victim of my ideals? My ideals are to deal with criminals. Not inanimate objects that thousands of people are capable of having without causing the mayhem that a statistically tiny population misuse.
America doesn't have a gun problem. America has a crime problem. Take care.

Every country with gun control boasts less violent crimes..ie Canada and Great Britain. How many more people have to die before the NRA backs off. Lobbyists suck.

Wow, I can't believe how misinformed some people can be and I while I won't debate stupidity I will say that both Canada and Great Britain have gun control laws and boast much less violent crime per capita. I do not believe you would call their citizenry enslaved. The recent epidemic of crazies killing innocents (Colorado, Wisconsin) should bring this debate to the forefront but the NRA is just to darn powerful and it's dollars have bought politicians on both sides of the aisle.

I believe in the right to bear arms but I don't need an AK-47 assault weapon to...well....do anything.

Craig...I agree with you but you can't fix stupid so don't lower yourself to argue with these people.

No, they don't boast less violent crimes. Maybe less firearm related crimes. What should the NRA back off from? How is protecting the 2nd Amendment a bad thing?

You don't even know what an AK47 is much less an "assault weapon". Talk about stupidity.

I would suspect that a firearm related crime is violent. There is something about a bullet ripping through a body of a person, place or thing that is violent and I do know what an AK47 is and I do believe the definition is "assault rifle" rather than "weapon". Semantics my friend.

I will take my own advice and disengage myself from this exchange. Have a great day.

A man on hadguns just means everyone becomes a viable target for criminals who, being criminals, will still have handguns, and no fear.

Yup. Same as rapes and beatings. Then there's stabbings. Bludgeonings. Arson.

Obviously you don't. There is a difference between an "assault rifle and an "assault weapon".
Does the idea of a woman using a gun to send a bullet through the flesh of the attacker trying to rape her bother you? Does the prospect of an elderly couple using a gun to thwart the threat of that 3AM uninvited intruder cause you trouble?

Though not necessarily lower violent crime rates.

How many more rights and liberties have to be diminished by you and our ilk? Why isn't 20,000 Federal, State, County, Municipal, and City firearms laws enough for you?
When will you learn that criminals don't obey firearms law or ANY laws for that matter?
Why do you blame the NRA for the acts of crimnals?

I held a membership for years with the NRA, 4years ago, when I renewed my membership they sent me a free gift, a pocketknife with the NRA logo embellished on the handle, when I opened the knife the blade read Made In China, no bull. I cancelled my membership.

I was a member until about 14 years ago when they "partnered" with Democrat polluticians to craft gun legislation.
They also kept sending me dire messages about how the Dems were going to take our guns away and how I need to send financial support so they could stand up to the Dems.
NRA became "Negotiating Rights Away" and I never renewed. I joined a real gun rights organization.

Some of you "sheep" still don't get it. You're not thinking clearly when you blame the gun for the violence. It's not accurate, nor is it intelligent. If our courts actually PUNISHED criminals, it would deter crime. Also, those cities with the most restrictive gun control laws have the highest amount of violent crime, including gun violence! It's not my opinion, it's FACT look it up and you will see.(Chicago, Washington DC, Detroit, Baltimore, Los Angeles, etc) guns and law-abiding citizens are NOT the problem and further restrictions only hurt them. Criminals don't follow the laws we have now, so why would you expect more gun laws to be the answer??? If you do, you're an idiot.

Smart citizen. Aka thinking man, cutting and pasting the same old comments calling other people names because they don't agree with you, another coward hiding behind a gun. Whatever.

I have both French and American citizenships and I have to say I am a little shocked. Not only because this debate is nearly as violent as a battle with guns, but aslo because you are missing the big picture.
What about comparing gun violence in the US and in the rest of the West ? What about comparing people's feeling about gun carrying in the US and the rest of the developed country ?
Well, have a look at this map https://poutsch.com/question/1001866 (you have to give your opinion first, but I guess that it's fair). And look a little beyond the borders of your state. Gun shootings are not a problem in many countries, mostly because gun are not a problem. There are no guns.

Fair enough Alice. Now, please name as many countries as you can with the sae socio-ecnomic dynamics as the US. When you can do that, then we can do an apples-to-apples comparison.

Sorry Alice, rights trump feelings every time.

America doesn't have a gun problem. America has a crime problem. As do most of the countries on that map.

I am afraid you cannot really separate crime from guns. The easier the access to guns is, the faster the violence escalates. I am clearly not a fan of comparison but it is true that European countries, where gun owning is controlled, have a much lower crime rate.
Now, about that map, it is a good idea, but what about coming back when you have enough votes ? I mean, look at it https://poutsch.com/question/1001866 ! How can you base an argument on such small data !
