It doesn't need to be called a marriage but it needs to guarantee a spouse's rights to same sex couples. In fact, seperate but equal may be the better route.

how does separating a segment of society create equality?

Equality may be out of reach, parity may be sufficient. At this stage, any forward motion would be an improvement. I'm open to suggestion.

In a perfect world this wouldn't be an issue but we live in a wonderfully flawed society. 200+ years of serving the majority is only now revealing the damage done to minorities. As much as we like to think we are objective, our legislation proves otherwise by reflecting the narrow views of an entrenched conservative majority. If they don't want to share the term "marriage", then we as a nation need to endow a similar, non-offensive title with equal rights.

I'm not sure that doing that is entirely necessary. The younger generation is much more open-minded and accepting of sexual orientation to the point that it's almost a non-issue. As they become old enough to vote, SSM will become more widespread, and will probably be called "same-sex marriage", but it will still be marriage. I guess I better get used to calling my marriage "traditional marriage". LOL!

Gays aren't second class citizens. They should be able to marry the person they love the same way Breeders do.

There's no reason someone shouldn't have the same rights as another because of who they love.
