<quoted text> you don't want theocratic rules regarding marriage? Then why worry about civil law regarding such? Theocracy recognized it long before civil.
A) because we are not theocracy.. so "theocratic" rules, have no place in our society when it comes to laws for american citizens
B)Worry bout civil laws because this is a civil matter, not a religious matter. The church does not need to be involved in marriage. If you want a church wedding fine... but not needed, not required, not necessary to be wed. All you need is a license, a person legally permited to marry and, in most states, a witness. So this IS a civil matter, not religious... which is why we should worry about civil law.

Why should govt be judge of who gets married? Two ppl can get married, as they see fit, and not have civil govt involved at all. Why do you need govt involvement? Ahh, I see. You just want the recognition. "Hey look at us! Over here! Yea! We're wanna get married and we want to force govt to make that happen! Hey! Don't you see us? Over here!"

Nothing to see here. Move along.

A) I am already married w kids
B) I agree.. in a perfect world the gov. does not need to be involved... then this whole thread would not be needed. However here in the real world fact is that in order to be legally married the government is involved. In order to get the same government granted "perks" of a legal marriage, a ssc must get the government t say...yes you are u.s. citizens and under the 14th you deserve equal treatment i.e. be allowed to marry whom you want and have it recognized,
C) Funny how you think this is a stunt for "recognition". If it was you being told you were not equal to our peers and therefore did not deserve nor would get the same rights and priveldedges they get, you would be shouting from the rooftops for "recognition"... but that is different right?

In a way you are correct, the ssc and homosexual community are looking for recognition. They want to be recognized as full u.s. citizens, with all the rights and privileges thereof..... shame of them for wanting that.

Ahhh, so it's not really about the "love" and "commitment." It's about the perks. Besides, I've never seen a federal marriage license.

Just saying.

Who said it was not about love and commitment... It is as much about that as marriage for a hetero couple is. However yes there are many privileges which are offered a legally married couple, both monetary and legal, both on a federal and state level... so what? Why should a ssc be denied the right to entering a ceremony of love and commitment which brings along many government granted privileges? Why should a hetero couple get more rights than a ssc?

No you are correct licenses are by the state... however they must meet constitutional guidelines. Anti ssm laws do not meet the guidelines of the 14th

The fed has no say in the matter. Again, until the fed starts mandating (no pun intended) a federal marriage license, ppl need to quit whining and get over it. Or, go to one of the northeastern states, get "married," and move back. But the fact of the matter is that it may be "legally" binding by man's laws, it will never be acceptable in the eyes of God.

Really... gee loving v would prove you wrong. You see it is a little thing called the 14th amendment. That pesky equal protection clause ... you know the one that basicaly says states can not have two sets of laws one for one set of its citizens one for another.... like a law saying opp. sex can marry but ssc can not.....

People who claim that the bible says its wrong are wrong. The bible didn't say being gay was a sin, it said " Judge not " it said " Love thy neighbor " it said divorce was wrong !! Don't hear people yelling about that. Anyway my point really is just why does anyone care ! I say everyone should be treated the same, no matter sex, religion, race, just let it go. If you don't think gays should marry then don't marry one.
