Marriage is a fundamental right for all Americans under our Constitution and absent a compelling state interest served by its denial, any law or amendment to that effect is unacceptable. There is simply no interest of the government and the people served by denying the right to marry to otherwise legally qualified couples who just happen to be of the same sex and the amendments that have been passed by the states denying that right are nothing more an embarrassment to our system of governance and to our history as a nation.

"Descoration", Gracie? What exactly is that? I tried looking it up, but couldn't find a meaning. By the way, you may want to actually read that King James Bible in between the times you thump people with it. It doesn't mention homosexuality, not even once; partly because it's a translation done more than two centuries before the word was first used and primarily because God doesn't have the problem with homosexuality and/or homosexuals that you want Him to. One other by the way, did you know that King James was very much homosexual himself?

In the King James Version, Leviticus 18:22 is translated: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

(btw, you must be a particularly dim-witted specimen if you can't figure out what the poster meant by Descoration" lol)

People stop using the bible as excuses for why gay marriage shouldn't be legal, don't you READ the bible?

It bans shaving off your beard.

It bans slaves from speaking up against their masters.

It bans adultery- but there's no law stopping you from cheating is there?

And technically, divorce is not allowed according to the bible. It was only allowed when some king of england got fed up and created a new sect of religion because he wanted to get divorced.

Samantha- I believe your mixing the bible with the Koran, which are similar, but not the same. If you are opposed to gay marriage think about this: All Americans are allowed to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If you think folks are going to hell because they are gay, just sit back smugly and await your day at the pearly gates. Maybe you will get the last laugh. Until then, sit down and mind your own business.

Homosexuals should be aloud to LEGALLY be married (in front of a judge). Its up to the church whether they want sanctify the love of two people of the same sex.

You can't use the Bible as a means to denounce homosexual marriage. As said by "Get Thy Facts Straight" : "Leviticus 18:22 is translated:'Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.'"
But Leviticus also states:

19:27 Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

20:9 If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.

20:10 If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death.

25:44-45 Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.

Point being, the Bible says many strange things that seem absurd in our modern day society. If you were in the Middle East, this may seem perfectly all right, but its not.

All people of the United States are free to practice their own religious freedoms, even if its the lack of one. You can't go around telling other people that your way is the way, because it only makes you said crazy and hateful. There is nothing legally that should be done to keep two married Americans (regardless of their sex) from sharing the same legal rights of two other married Americans, its fundamentally, morally, and ethically wrong to do so.

A lot of what is going on today rings about the same tune that the civil rights movement brought about. Would you think it right to say that two black individuals can't marry in white churches? No, that sounds horrible! Why would you strip the rights of other Americans? All who wish to do so must strongly re-evaluate their stance on things before they get trampled beneath the times.
