The 'separation of church and state' means one person's religious views should not be consulted when making a decision that affects the many(laws). Not all americans are christian, so those of us who aren't shouldn't have to abide by their "morals."

Even Spain has legalized gay marriage and they're a catholic country. Time to jump on the bandwagon America, or do we have to fight a civil war for this as well?

LOL, where did you ever get that wacky idea ???

Separation of Church and States is a guarantee that the State cannot interfere with the free practice of the religion on one's choice.

Surely, religion belief shapes one point of view and will carry over into the point of view on most things.

That's right. Only about three quarters of Americans are Christian. The remaining 25% are either members of other religions, agnostics, or atheists.

You're free to be as immoral as your want to be. homosexuality isn't a crime anymore.

i have to disagree, i believe that the seperation of church and state was put into place to protect the religious minorities(i.e. atheist ex.) and if 75% of americans are christain we are still the minority and it is our duty as americans to protect the rights of said minorities.

and, yes. any law based on religious view is unconstitutional and immoral (because it is FORCED on the citizens who are not of that religion and it serves no purpose in the safety or prosperity of the country)

Separation of church and state is not constitutional, it is a political stance; one I support, but still.- Besides the point.

This is America. If you want to live in a Christian Dictatorship, then move to one. America was founded on the VERY IDEA that Christian morality should not influence our laws; we were escaping from what we saw as a religious dictation. That is why our first amendment states "Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion." AKA; the views of your church, do not get to influence MY freedoms. It's that simple. Our legal system is based on detriment, homosexuality is not detrimental to American citizens, our society as a whole, or those who practice it. The only argument against it is the bible, and that makes it an unconstitutional ban; for it's opposition is based PURELY on scripture. Christians do not get to right to outlaw Shellfish, they do not have the right to tell me I can not work on the Sabbath; so why should they have the right to tell me who I can't marry?
