I can wear a kilt in any court in this country.
Civil marriage IS a government institution; the legislation and constitution matter; your opinion does not.
How would marriage equality make america less free?

Gender roles matter, either authority rests with family or with government. Keep America free by not giving Government the power to redefine marriage.

There is no gender equality right in the US Constitution. The South African, German and Canadian Constitutions have explicit gender equality rights, we don't.

Face reality, a man and a woman are unequal, just as adults and children or citizens and noncitizens are unequal.

Please provide one prerequisite of being a spouse that a woman cannot do that a man can, or vice versa.

Marriage was created to give a home for children to live with their mother and father.

No, it wasn't. It was a means of establishing bloodlines and delineation of [property. Children were commodities the father owned; many were not raised by their parents but apprenticed out to be raised by tradesmen. The wealthy and powerful had nannies (nurses) who raised the kids.

You have this insane notion that "Leave it to Beaver" was a documentary about marriage. In point of fact, your ideal wasn't even near the norm.

I suspect Pete never watched even a single episode. Same sex marriage is founded on ignorance.

If your gay and want to get marriage most people in Indiana could care less. That is if you go someplace else to do it.

Just one of the thousands of things you've been wrong about here.

If you;re a hoosier redneck and want to block gay rights, the courts really couldn't care less. Sorry, cletus-bob, but every state will eventually have SSM.

Good point, there's no law against going to a jurisdiction that allows same sex marriage. You can also have your religious institution perform any rite they consent to perform, including same sex marriage.

The issue is about changing laws so government would treat marriage as unisex. I like marriage as is:

Indiana statute (DOMA)(SJR15, HJR7 and HJR 8) states that: "Only a marriage between one (1) man and one (1) woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Indiana. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized."

Which means that, when the federal DOMA is declared unconstitutional, so will virtually all the state doma's a well.

Thanks to the gay community owns action, gay marriage will be banned in Indiana. Not to mention the "gay" parade that people laugh at every year, the chick fil A back fired on them. Can we vote on the ban tomorrow? If we could it would pass with flying colors.

They laugh at the gay pride festival? The newspaper seems to take it seriously enough. Must just be the trailer-park trash you live with.

Just curious--has any relative of yours dated outside the family?

President Obama ran on marriage as one man and one woman in 2008. Governor Romney has pledged to work for a Constitutional amendment to define marriage as one man and one woman.

There is no gender equality right in the Constitution; same sex marriage is unconstitutional.

Gay marriage won't be banned, people will still have the right to go to their church for that religious rite. If a same sex couple marries and moves to Indiana, nothing about their love and commitment will be banned.

We'll just be stopping the government from redefining marriage. This issue is about law, taxes and entitlements. We can't afford same sex marriage because we don't want taxpayers to buy Viagra for the same sex partners of our schoolteachers and public employees.

A federal constitutional amendment for a state's issue? How does that work?

Whatever SSM might be, it is not unconstitutional. That's idiotic.
