Everyone has the right to love whoever they want, regardless of gender. There is absolutely no reason to deny someone their basic right to love.

Why should anyone care? I don't understand why anyone would, if its not YOUR life! Just saying. Everyone should have the right to happiness and a life with someone else. Be it a differnt race, age (adults), o gender.

<quoted text>The Constitution DEFINES the powers & responsibilities of state & federal powers. GAY marriage, MARRIAGE being the key word, is NOT in federal/constitutional parameters.
There is an option/choice; Move to a gay rights state if this is an issue with you.
And just how DID those state 'become' gay rights states? I'm not moving, will be with you for quite some time neighbor and one day, so to will Ohio be a Civil Union state for gay people.
Hope God blesses you Pops and by the way, great reply, very pithy and intelligent without being mean, racy, or other options so many choose in this topic so many become divisive over. 99% of my life is spent working and out in the world. 15 minutes one time a year if lucky at my age I don't think will bother too many. Besides, my wretched heart cannot handle it anyway. LOL.

Again, well spoken, thanks for reply and correction!

Ya well spoken..wrong.. but well spoken
See Pops said marriage is a state rights issue.... which is true..to a point.
A very important point. It is a states rights issue... until the state goes against the constitution. See this was the defense of the commonwealth of Virginia in Loving v. Virginia. The state claimed that marriage was a states right issue and as such they (the state) could have anti interracial marriage laws. SCOTUS overturned the law on violation of the 5th and 14th amendment. Basically they ruled that the equal protection clause of the 14th was violated. The state could not say that these two citizens could marry, while these other two citizens could not based solely on race. The equal protection clause basically says that laws in states must be across the board. They can not say one group is allowed to do something while another is not, unless they can show a compelling states interest. In other words, in the case of ssm, the state must show a compelling reason why ssm would hurt the state in order to out law it. I have ask opponents of ssm on several threads to tell me what the compelling states interest would be. No one, as of yet, can.

Hey, look, I really do NOT care if someone is Gay or so straight that NASA uses them in contemplating trajectories. There is more than 1 GLBT person in my family tree & they are good people. BUT I am very tired of the 'whoa is me' whiney crying sympathy BS that goes around.
Whats next? Tall women complain that they do not get a certain percentage of leading Hollywood parts? One armed people complain that they don't get jobs playing pro sports, priest petition to marry, the Mennonites want free taxi rides, men can't play women's sports, agnostics can't get married in an orthodox church, non-union people do not get union wages & the list goes on.
EVERYONE is NOT entitled to what someone else has. It is primarily greed & or low self esteem that fuels this argument. I was a single custodial dad at one time & was stone walled when applying for WIC. You know what? I got over it even tho my kids suffered. SORRY about that. Things are what they are on this matter. LIVE with it!!

IF all things were equal, you could be right. But ALL things are NOT equal so it can be fair to deny one something that another does have.
Example question: Why can blacks enter a Miss anything beauty contest but whites, Asians, Latino's, Eskimo's etc can not enter a 'Black Miss' anything contest?
There are other examples that your reasoning is a little stunted.

Aren't whites, Latino's, indigenous Americans & others U.S. citizens? Of course they are so why can't they enter a Black Mr/Miss America contest? No reason what-so-ever.
As far as marriage goes, it has always been to legitimize natural offspring for obvious & historic reasons.
Some time ago I would have voted for gay marriages but now I am tired of the primary argument being 'equality'. The whining & crying & the 'I'm a victim' attitude. The world & country is full of inequalities & a lot of people just need to grow up, deal with it & go on OR make the Mercedes payments of a shrink.
Just because science can mimic nature in some ways for reproduction does NOT change the historic reasons & definition of marriage.
I have NO sympathy or empathy for adult cry babies. NONE what so ever. They need to get a grip & get on their lives without the B.S. tears.

There is no right to enter into a pagent... there is a right to enter into a civil contract ... Major difference. You can put restrictions on contests. You can not restrict who can enter into a civil contract if they are of age and meet the criteria to enter into a contract.. If the state allows for its citzens to enter into the civil contract of marriage, they, under the 14th, can not allow only some of its citizens unless they can show a overwhelming states interest...

Tell you what.. you say they are crying and whining...and should j ust basically suck it up... If you are married.. why dont you get a divorce, give up all the benifits of marriage and see what it is like... but of course you wouldn't..... it just sucks to be them... right

"Just because science can mimic nature in some ways for reproduction does NOT change the historic reasons & definition of marriage."
If the "historic reason" for marriage was reproduction how come it was never EVER a stipulation for marriage?.... You see you got it wrong. Having children was an outcome of marraige.. not a reason for it.... As far as historically women and man equaled marriage. Well historically white male equaled president... history changes.....

You need to get over yourself.... Would you have said the same things back in the 60's. The blacks need to quit whining and suck it up....
But that is different... right

Interesting! For your 1st part...the courts have said that there is a reason that Non-Blacks can enter these contest although I agree with your response, the courts have endorsed & instilled reverse discrimination which is & of it's self is racial descrimination. Pretty convaluted in & of itself, don't you think? That makes the argument a lawful/constitutional argument & not simply a civil argument. Next, entering into a 'civil contract' is short of a contractual 'right' as you put it.
Your anology of being a white male equaling being president is apples & coconuts & thusly off of topic. WE currently have a president that professed being Black although he is equally White as a Bi-racial. I & most others don't give a squat if a candidate has 1 eye or 3 eyes if they get the job done although 15 yrs ago or 150 yrs ago you may have had a point, NOT now for the most part when one excludes the 95% of the black voters that voted for Barrak because he professed to black & dis-missed his white half.
As far as the Historic reasons for lawful marriage...that can NOT be changed unless one alters the teachings of history thru censorship/manipulation to push an agenda.
I also lived thru the 60's & admired MLK Jr & have this to say about that, IF set asides, affirmative action & other 'programs' were balance things, they would have fulfilled their purpose/intent in the nearly 3 generations since the institution of these programs.
Consider that FACT that Asians typically get higher grades & higher degrees than Blacks & possibly even Whites overall. Are they(Asians) in line looking for some sort of overwhelming prefrential government aid? NO.
I have more to say to address your reply but I am running out of room so I will end with, I admire your attitude & position but there is no way that it will be supported by logic, ethics, morals or history.
BUT if YOU want to keep defending the indefensible, you have that right. So go for it.
