We got married in California during the three months the state government allowed gays to marry. The Mormon church put up millions of dollars to take our rights away and won. Funny coming from a group that lost their right to marry multiple wives.
We have a wonderful loving relationship, pay taxes, own a business and are VERY stable. Going by standards and customs that are thousands of years old is unrealistic. The bible says you should stone your neighbor if he doesn't honor the sabbath. Do we do that? Of course not. The bible also teaches us to love others and treat them like we would want to be treated. Do we do that? We should. Religious marrage should be separate from civil marrage. If your religion does not want gays to marry then fine. But the countries laws are made for equal treatment for all. That is all we ask. I personally think the issue is people don't know how to talk about gay marrage to their children. These people also don't want to talk about the black man and white woman walking down the street. Please just give all humans the respect they deserve.

As a straight woman about to get married, I think it's a very real social injustice to deny that moment (a confirmation of and commitment to love, a solid foundation for a family, a series of legal privileges, and a social rite of passage symbolizing adulthood and contribution to community) to anyone. I want to be there, smiling through happy tears, at /all/ of my friends' weddings.

Marriage is a social rite of passage, a foundation for family, a huge bundle of important legal rights, and a confirmation of love. It shouldn't be denied to anyone, and it boggles me that we're leaving it up to the majority. Imagine if we'd had a national vote on emancipation!

Most Americans oppose government licensed sex segregated marriage, see the map above for proof. Sex segregated marriage is based on prejudice, bigotry and discrimination so most people defend the perfect affirmative action, diversity and sex integration of one man and one woman marriage.

The issue isn't freedom, you are free to love whomever you wish, same sex cohabitation, religious same sex marriage and travel to and from jurisdictions that license sex segregated marriage is perfectly legal in every state. The hate comes from leftists who sue Christians that refuse to help celebrate gay marriage.
