Marriage establishes kinship, Gay people need it for the same reasons as straights: to protect family.

Everyone is people, separate but equal is never equal and gender is a social construct. There's no reason why people should ever be punished for loving people.

Because having social equality is awesome.
Also wedding cake and the ability to have a real marriage to celebrate about.

Love is love. Whose business is that but the lovers'? Anyone else is just jealous.

Others' relationships are of no concern to me; male, female, it doesn't matter. Why should someone be discriminated just because they love someone who has the same organs as them?

What people do is what defines them, not whom they love.

no need to explain. all humans have rights and every human in the US has the right to marry. its not up to us to decide who marries who.

This is pathetic. I know for a fact that a majority of those in berkeley support gay marriage. I wish that the truth was really represented here. Berkeley definitely supports gay marriage. rights should never be withheld from anyone.

Love is love, no matter the gender. The government shouldn't classify loving relationships between two consenting adults as 'right' or 'wrong'. The only reason that same-sex relations are considered 'wrong' by some people is because certain religions say so, and the last time I checked, America isn't a theocracy. Being part of a minority shouldn't make anyone a second-class citizen. Plus, if marriage is defined as between 'a man and a woman', what about the population of intersex people? And would transgenders go by their birth sex? As for civil unions being used as a substitute for a marriage license: "separate is not equal" (Brown v. Board of Education).

Because there's no way that it "threatens the sanctity of marriage".
