Two consenting adults should be allowed to do whatever they want together so long as no one else is harmed. Last time I checked, two men in love with each other or two women in love with each other was not harmful to anyone. No one marriage (of any sort) is going to damage marriage as an institution. If it were enough to do so, then marriage as an institution isn't all that solid. (Side note: I know the joke is that America is from Puritan stock as a country, and therefore supposed to be against all things fun and pleasurable, but some people are taking their Puritan heritage way too seriously.)

The absurdity in Japan is that I couldn't become a full citizen because of my heritage, but a robot (Asimo) and a seal (Toma-chan) could - look it up.
The absurdity here is that some people aren't citizens because of their beliefs and who they like.
We shouldn't be Japan.

Because it should be about love and not sexuality. Take the sexual part out and nobody would care. But, Bottom line, does public display of Gay sex disturb young children. ANSWER = YES. Protecting young children to build a moral compass is way way more important than a loud proud group that shouts louder than the rest and quite possibly would have a higher Divorce rate.
Legal Domestic Partnerships with Rights, Benefits and Ceremony = YES
Marriage = NO
Public display of any sort of sex would disturb some people.
Your answer is invalid.

The reason why this is such a 'loud proud group' is because said group is trying to receive the rights they should have as human beings. If straight citizens have their rights taken away by the government that should be protecting them, I'm sure they'd be loud and proud too.

Higher divorce rate? This is about marrying the person you love, not divorce. When straight couples get married and don't divorce, then maybe this could be relevant. Just maybe.

Equality and civil rights apply to everyone in the US. Also, calling it gay marriage is ridiculous.

Equal rights for ALL Americans! Everyone should be able to marry the person that they love whether that person be of the same gender of them or not.

It's a basic human right, period. Not allowing gays to get married makes them second class citizens, which is inexcusable in my eyes.

Civil marriage has nothing to do with religious law and there's no reason to deny two willing adults the rights and privileges that come with civil marriage to the person that they love

Straight people have the right to marry who they are interested in - the opposite sex. Gay people do not - the same sex. This is simply not fair. Not everyone abides by the same social norms, or the same religion, we need to learn to accept and deal with the way other people live. Two gay men or Two lesbian women getting married does not affect me or anyone else in any negative way whatsoever. Those who oppose are either the religious or homophobic, but that doesn't mean that they should be able to determine whether or not someone gets married to the same sex, because it simply does not have any effect on their lives and therefore shouldn't matter whether or not who marries who. Not everyone one believes in a religion, and we let others do what they want in that area. Religion is supposed to be private, and so is what people do in the bed room. We have freedom of religion (Barely) and freedom of speech, so why not freedom of marriage?

Sodom and Gomorrah and homosexuality are never used in the same context.

Also, this country has freedom of religion. I'm a 13 year old Christian lesbian, and Jesus still loves me. Problem?

Sorry to hear that sweetie. Have you been buggered today? I hope not. I hope that medical science can find a cure for your condition. You deserve to be respected just as anyone with or without a genetic defect should be respected and treated fairly.

Try not to catch HIV.
